Harbor Freight Recalls Pittburgh 3 and 6-Ton Jackstands

    FYI

Just reading about this on E46fanatics so l looked it up https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-cul...of-collapsing/

    I went straight to my garage. I have 2 - 61197 (recall) and 2 - 62393 (not recalled)

Interesting that I bought all 4 - 6 ton jacks all at the same time and never noticed that they weren't all the same part number

I went to the HF website and looked up the 61197 and they list 4 part numbers for the this jack:

PITTSBURGH AUTOMOTIVE 6 ton Steel Jack Stands - Item 61197 / 38847 / 62393 / 69596. makes me wonder why they all aren't in the recall

I dug deeper, since my 2 62393 jacks look identical to the recalled model number......

they use multiple manufacturers, and the attached link to the NHTSA article says Covid has delayed the tests on those models..... https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/202...0E016-6561.PDF

I bet all models could be bad

Harbor Freight Tools sells 6 ton jack stands made by other manufacturers, and
we are in the process of evaluating those other jack stands. However, their
evaluation has been delayed by the work restrictions caused by COVID-19

Thanks. I guess mine are OK.

Though I haven’t used them since I got the QuickJack!

So can we take these back to HF without a receipt for an exchange or refund? I have two of these (69597)

Edit: I see that you can return them for a gift card of equal value. Thanks for posting this

Your part number, although listed as one of their jacks, was not part of the recall. The R&T article says:

These jack stands were sold under the Pittsburg brand name, and can be identified by item numbers 56371 or 61196 on 3-ton models, and 61197 on 6-ton models.

Got it. That was based on the NHTSA saying that testing of the other similar models (like yours) has been delayed by Covid

Thanks for posting this. I had 4 of 61196 that I returned to the store yesterday (no receipt or anything) and they gave me 4 of 56373 as an even exchange. Hopefully these won't end up getting recalled too haha.
