Perfect example of flipping gone wrong

    https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2001-bmw-m5-182/
I have been watching this closely as this is one of my favorite cars, but I always stay away from bidding reason being I am car enthusiast but with a common sense and a budget. Back in the golden days it was easy to find cars on craiglists or local newspaper, negotiate a reasonable price and enjoy. Now if you want to get into a enthusiast car , the only way to win is by bidding and loosing your common sense. Sellers have gone greedy because of these auctions platform. Any one else feels the pain and hate these auction platforms specially the evil of all BAT.

You can always ask Botond (az3579) how much he loves BaT auctions...

Unfortunately if you're looking for a pristine low mileage example of these cars these days then you can expect to shell out a lot more money than you really want to or you can just buy a high mileage much less than pristine example for $5k and just fix it up and enjoy it which is what I did.

I prefer to do this and believe it’s better for the hobby overall. I think this is what enthusiasts will have to do in the future anyway. The pristine low mileage examples will simply cease to exist. You won’t be able to afford to be picky on mileage and no rust and perfect paint/body work because there will be none of these cars. There won’t be anymore of them and people are driving/wrecking them more and more everywhere. You will be lucky to find one at all. People who are able to rebuild engines and do bodywork and 3d print rare plastic parts will be in high demand.

I follow some of the BAT auctions. But I don't plan to buy in there. BTW, did you see my recent post ?

I would love to comment about how much I despise auctions but I have extremely unpopular opinions about this subject and would probably get in trouble for making these comments, so I'm going to refrain...

It's not the car you drive, it's how you drive it.

Wow, the comments in that auction are quite the read! 355 comments! The seller only got caught because he mistakenly replied to a question about his car using the fake shill bidders screen name and a potential bidder asked what was going on! And in looking at the sellers prior auctions, he bid up his own cars on those too and never got caught

And BaT has still allowed this seller to list more cars since then.... undermines the faith in BaT
