Style 71's - badass effect lost by painting?

So, my Style 71's arrive at my mechanic's place tomorrow. He has a guy who refinishes wheels, so I'm going to have him send it off so it could hopefully be done by this weekend. My question is, will painting the wheels the color I have my wheels now make it lose the badass effect?

In silver, they look menacing (to me at least). I really want to paint them to be right around the color my wheels are now, but I'm afraid that by making them less conspicuous, the badass effect would be lost. What do y'all think; badass or not badass, painted?

This is the color it would be painted if I went through with it:

This is what they would look like when refinished in silver:

FYI, If I repaint the wheels in the darker color, I would retain a polished lip. This should be easy to do as the wheel is a 2-piece wheel.
Let's hear what the famigilia has to say...

I'm more for your style 135s but if you were to decide to go with the 71s (which i believe you have) I'd just refinish them in silver or the whole wheel and the lip. Think the wheels would just look kind a brake dust dirty if you keep the lip polished. my 2c

Yep, I like the stock silver, especially on those 71s because of its badassness. New word*

Custom mixed when I got the wheels refinished. It's like a darker medium gray; it's nowhere near black, but it's also nowhere near silver. It's not quite gunmetal, either... it's... cool (in person).

I will do it, just for you Case.

So far it's look like silver even in my mind. The main reason is how the polished lip would look with the painted wheel. Something about it seems off. Besides, it should be cheaper to do it standard silver.
