This is a bit of an old post and probably everyone who wants a lighted shift knob already has one by now... but I just wanted to post that BMW apparently does make a retrofit harness for the connector. Part number is 61120029488

Do you know if there is a part number for the male end of that connector?

It's not the car you drive, it's how you drive it.

61138373583 will work. It's the "universal" or "Z" version of the connector, so it looks a little different, but it will fit fine otherwise. The stock connector is a "B" version

(there's also an "A" type not pictured there)

Excellent, thank you. I'm going to have to redo my connectors with proper disconnect connectors since they're using ones that are nearly impossible to disconnect without hurting oneself (or the cables).

What's the part number on the illuminated shift knob, and is it the zhp shorty or the longer m5 one?

It's the M5 knob. The height difference is so small, I couldn't even tell it was taller than the knob it replaced.

Team- I have a question on this installation. I connected the power to the ashtray light with the connector suggested in post #11 above and am getting 12v on that part. However, getting no light on the shift knob when connected to it. There is 0 continuity on the connection coming off the knob itself, as tested with a multimeter. I suspect this is a defect with the wiring on the knob, but seems crazy since I'm on my second one of these ordered from ECS tuning. Both had the same issue. Any ideas? Part box photo is here.

Anybody in Southern California with a working version of this, so I can test whether it's the device or the wiring?
