    It's "buy once" because it requires you to hand wash it and re-oil it at certain intervals. Essentially making it a "new" filter by washing out all of the dirt and particles.

    It's a servicable filter that can be used as many time as you want. Main point is to clean and oil it every 8-10k miles in order to avoid dust and other crap being sucked inside your engine.

    my expansion tank blew yesterday and after taking out the filter to get to it, i looked at it and well i am now convinced to get one!

    the air filter or the expansion tank?

    the air filter is just dirty and the expansion tank just needed replacing. got the tank yesterday from Zach at Crevier BMW (HUGE THANKS BY THE WAY ZACH!) and today is the install day!
