BMW Announces E46 tail light recall

Hmm, I wonder... would they still repair it if I have the extra ground wire workaround implemented? The ground wire in my driver's side tail is completely melted and I think the extra ground wire that I had spliced in is the only ground on it at the moment...

I would think they'll replace the harness regardless (hopefully) despite the "modification"...

I made the modification too. Luckily I made it just as the taillight warning in the dash started to come on so nothing melted.

I wonder why BMW did not include the 99-01 Sedans and Coupes in this recall? I sell just as many bulb carriers and wiring kits for these as the 02-05 Sedans.

Perhaps it's because they're more than 10 years old? Dunno...

Iirc they don't have grounding failures.

My car had this problem 3 years ago. My connectors melted together and I threw codes. Both connectors (female and male) needed to be replaced and an additional ground was added.

Glad they finally see the fault here

How will they inform us 2nd owners? The local BMW dealers have no idea I own a BMW. Do they run some DMV report or something or will I have to call them?

After I bought my car, I called BMW NA to have them change their records to reflect that the car was now mine.

Is this what my problem is? Intermittently my rear light out warning will come up.. but I usually flick on the lights and hit the brakes and it'll go out.

Where's my ZKW recall!!!

I thought about this as well.. screw whats behind us, I wanna see whats in front of me! haha

we have a taillight repair kit for this problem for about 6 years now....I saw an email today at work from BMWNA about the recall so guys wait for the letter from BMWNA
