    Glove box repairs

Ok folks, so here's the question when I bought my BMW the glove box latch was broken. The guy I bought it from gave me what we thought was to be the new part that he ordered but didn't have time to install it. As simple as it is I can't figure out how the pieces go together.

Let me know if anyone has had to make this repair.

I can't help you with any details, never messed with it, but are you sure you have all the right parts? It looks like there are 2 outer pieces to the latch mechanism.

Go here and enter the last 7 of your vin #........

    http://www.penskeparts.com/fiche.aspx

Go to "vehicle trim" to find the glovebox parts. You can also use www.realoem.com but Penskeparts has better diagrams. Also, it looks like the coupe and vert have different latches with different part numbers. Are you sure you have vert parts? Any part numbers on the pieces he gave you?

EDIT: After looking closer, it looks like there aren't 2 outer pieces. They are inner and outer latch parts. #4 and #5.

Actually it looks like part 4 is still attached and part 5 is the new one he has. My guess... Unscrew part 4 from the inside of the glove box, position part 5 on the outside and put the screws back in

I had to take mine apart just yesterday as it was getting stuck, so I lubed it and put the pieces back. If you'd like, PM me your number and we can talk about what's going on with yours. Basically you put both pieces in from the top. The piece in your bottom picture goes in first, (it should be connected w/electrical wires - at least mine are). Then the piece in the 2nd pic just lays on top and the screws go right in. Not exactly sure what the 1st pic is, and not sure where the lock for your glove box is in the 3rd pic.

I'll add that in the 4th pic, if you rotated it 1/4 turn right, that's how the bottom piece (the handle) should be oriented in your car.
