    Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS Telephoto Zoom Lens - $144 on Amazon

    I don't know anything about the quality of this lens but that is damn cheap.

    My guess is it would be capable of good images stopped down to f/8 in daylight. 4.3in long and 1lb is pretty compact too.
