    DISA Valve Failure Rate?

Ok so my car had some stuttering and replacing one coil fixed that.

Now it is doing it again, and I am assuming it is another coil, so I am getting all 5 replaced as many suggested anyways.

However, it seems a similar symptom can be caused by a failing disa valve.

    1. Car has over 160k, some say the downside of having a disa fail is so great, replace it after 100k... so I am thinking when my mech comes to do my shocks, I should have him do the disa as well, since it is pretty cheap, risk reward seems no brainer?

    2. We know what can happen if disa fails, but is there any egregious damage a failed coil can do to your car if not replaced promptly?

New guy came, replaced the 5 coils, running again beautifully, took 20 min... $100, it is what it is... the other guy wanted $170 so....

Either way I will have him replace the disa when he comes back to replace my rear shocks, one less thing to worry about for like $70.

The DISA can be tested for functionality and whether it's at risk for failure. Chances are it's fine; it may just be a good idea to rebuild it with the German Auto Solutions DISA rebuild kit instead if it passes the basic tests.

    How to test for functionality:

    G.A.S. rebuild kit:

They also sell a pre-built upgraded DISA valve for remove & replacement, but it's a lot more coin than just rebuilding it:

Nice.... Seems like the right way to do it... I guess around $200 for the part, I thought the part was actually cheaper so... Ya, maybe not just an automatic replace for now

Also note that you can't install the DISA kit on OEM/aftermarket DISAs. It will only fit on genuine BMW DISAs. Found that out the hard way. Luckily G.A.S. was nice and they accepted a return after explaining that to me.

I ended up getting the golden DISA since I had no other options.

What are some of the differences of the non-OE DISA that prevent the G.A.S. installation?

The measurements of some of the individual components are different so the GAS kit will physically not fit.
