    Plasti-dipping bolt heads

Hey guys, a few of my wheel bolt heads are rusted or corroded or whatever they are but it looks bad IMO and they work fine, so I'm hesitant to spend the money for new ones. What do y'all think about plastidipping the heads of them back to black again?

Just an idea I thought of just now

Plastidip will not survive torquing them. It is not incredibly durable stuff when it comes to direct mechanical contact. It is also pretty thick and depending on how well your favorite socket fits you might scrape the stuff off just putting a socket on them. You're better off just cleaning them up very well with a wire brush and possibly hitting them with clear lacquer or just keeping them clean.

good wirebrushing and a sharpie might actually work.

oh good idea on the wire brush. I may just do that and then hit them with something to clean them up. I've never used plasti-dip before so I don't have any idea on how it looks/functions

    thanks

I shadowlined my E30 with the stuff which took for EVER, so I got pretty intimate with it.

It is great at resisting stuff like stone chips and abrasion, but if you dug your fingernail into it and scraped it will come right off. It also peels up whole which is nice for a mulligan if you messed up but means once it starts to peel it pretty much won't stop.

Good product in certain applications but this isn't one of them. Spraypaint would be better suited, but I'd try a sharpie first.

Maybe try caliper paint, I don't know if it more durable than regular spray paint but would imagine it is.

That's along the lines of what I was thinking. Using an engine or other durable type of spray paint. I'll see what I can find at my local hardware store.

I had the same issue. Was triggering my OCD.

    I bought these from Bimmian.

I was thinking about those since both of my parent's Audi's have them but then you have to take each one off with needle-nose pliers to take the wheel off which is kinda a pain.

Nah, they give you a special tool with the kit. Super-quick.

Takes less than 2 seconds per cover to take off.

I just keep it in my glove box.

    Droid X. Tapatalk. Use it.
