We sure have it good in the US...

I was browsing the Hungarian car classifieds, pondering how much I'd be paying for an equivalent BMW if I was to move there, and once again wasn't surprised how much more expensive the cars are over there. Here is an example.

For reference, my ZHP cost me $18,000 USD, which is the Hungarian Forint (HUF) equivalent of 4,221,787.61 HUF.

    Some ads I found:

    2003 330Ci (with M-Tech II): 9,290,000 HUF ($39,607 USD)
24,000km. Check out the pics on this one; that trim is wild, and apparently more common in Europe than here. This is the 3rd car I saw it on while browsing this site.

    2005 320i (E90): 4,172,000 HUF ($17,786 USD)
Yes, 320i. As in weakling no-power 320i. This car was in a collision, airbag deployed. Cloth seats, barely any options whatsoever. And it's still this expensive...

    2004 320i (E46): 2,590,000 HUF ($11,045 USD)
Another 320i. It has hideous blue vinyl seats.. 'Nuff said. In the US, you could get a more pristine 330i (non ZHP) for that much, with lower mileage. This one has 163,000km, around 100k miles.

    2001 316Ci (E46): 2,350,000 HUF ($10,027 USD)
This is literally the slowest car BMW produces. This one is automatic.
It's got some cool seats (cloth center, leather bolsters), but otherwise, you're not getting much for your $10k's worth.

It's good to know that our economy is much better over here, despite it still not being what it's supposed to be. So, take this as some food for thought.

It's not the car you drive, it's how you drive it.

Crazy that there is such a vast difference in the prices between Hungary and the US. Any diesels up for sale over there? (Though I realize it makes it hard to compare to our lack of them in the US, but I was curious if there happens to be a gas vs. diesel difference within Hungary alone).

Are you forgetting about the Isetta? A close second in the US would be the E28 524td...

HAHAHA, this could quickly turn into a Monty Python skit JP!

Yes, Dixi for some classic history. Slower then that...my (sold) E30 with the engine removed.

Here I was expecting a thread about the bill of rights, education, equality, ability to put foot to ass anywhere on the planet.......

    Nah. BMW prices

Anyway, yes. We have pretty great prices on everything around here. Couple in fuel prices and it is an even stronger story. First time some german relatives visited the states and saw my big 7.3L PSD their jaws hit the floor at how wasteful it is...to them. Always a matter of perspective. Actually that thing just sucks fuel no matter how you look at it, but the first way sounded better.

Let's not get carried away; BMW still produces a 316i, therefore those models can't be compared.

And yes, I saw some diesels as well. The diesels carry a slightly higher price tag, but get that much better fuel economy.
I'd have me a 330d Touring in a heartbeat as a daily instead of my ZHP if they had 'em here.

Wow, so it would be either an E90/92 or an F30 316i? My other car is a '97 318ti, so I cannot imagine how awesome the speed must be in a 316! Bet it Burns through a set of rear tires faster then Jeremy Clarkson!

The diesel cars carrying a premium does stand to reason. I suppose diesel fuel is cheaper then gas there, thus making them that much more desirable?

Haha, make mine the Alpina D3!
