To chime in, I replaced the stock RE040's with the RE760 after reading the positive reviews on Tirerack (the pricing was right as well). I have been very happy with them and just replaced the rears after 20k+ miles. I use them year-round (very limited driving in colder temps) so I wanted something a little less soft and better able to handle the varying pavement where I live.

Pros:
Long tread-life
Very quiet and stable at highway speed
Good wet traction
No tramlining

Cons:
Noticeable loss of dry grip at the limit
Sidewall profile is tall and rounded off (not as sharp as the RE040)

I would not do autox on these tires, but if you're willing to sacrifice a bit of grip and appearance, the RE760 is def a good deal.
