You can put it whereever your heart desires. I like mine in the spot you can see in my sig pic, but I've seen another member here put it on the opposite side. Personal preference.
It stays on very well. Depends on how well you tighten it. It has a threaded rod coming out the back and a nut and plate that you use to secure it to the grille.
