    Mileage Master

I subscribe to a daily email called "Now I Know" that highlights a random story every day, usually something pretty interesting that makes for good water cooler talk. Today's was about Irv Gordon and his Volvo P1800, now closing in on 3 million miles driven together. There's an article about him on Volvo's site: http://www.volvocars.com/intl/top/ab...spx?itemid=192

So, I gotta ask, who's got the most miles driven on his/her ZHP? Think you'll still be driving it 50 years from now? I wonder what BMW model holds the record for most miles. Anyone know?

Wow impressive that it's got the same block tranny and diff as it did from the factory

I think I would put my money on an E30 or E28 for most miles driven, but I have never see anything official on this question. I am almost at 240K on a '97 E36 with original eng & manual trans., but that is a long way from 3 million miles! ZHP has just a few less miles.

Awesome John! Assume it is something more then the infamous odometer gear?

Just lazy I guess, went and bought a couple at pick n pull and no luck, I just rack them up at the usual pace of minimum 600-700 a week.

Haha, fair enough. Gears alone didn't used to be too $, but if If doesn't bother you, fuggetaboutit! I just hated not knowing actual miles for oil changes, etc. Old one melted in the speedo-odo. :D

    Crazy story. Same radio even!

This is when it seems appropriate to say "they don't make 'em like they used to".

I've had my E30 longer than I've had my E46, but my E30 had a non-working odometer for a good amount of time when I had it. I can only estimate that I've put about 90-110k on it the whole time I've had it (almost 4 years).

I've already put about 57-58k on mine in the short 1.8 years I've had it. I actually thought to myself that if I was to keep this car another 10 years, I would have well over 440,000 miles on it by then. Insane how much time is spent in the driver's seat!

To drive 3 million miles, though; that will require ownership for a looooooooong time! At the rate I drive, I would need to drive this car for another 91 or so years!

It's not the car you drive, it's how you drive it.

This reminds me of the 500,000 mile Acura Legend.
