    Wheel work

Hey guys, for a week or so now I've been toying with the idea of getting my 135s refinished in the shadow chrome similar the E39 M5's wheels rather than the stock silver. Opinions? Also, I've no idea what it would run price-wise for something like that. I would need shadow chrome kidneys to go with it, I just can't find those anywhere at all. I just think the look of dark chrome on Sparkling Graphite would be fantastic. Thanks for the input

    What color is your car?

    Edit: Fail. Fail. Fail.

For some reason I read it as if you compared the finish to sparkling graphite.

Would have to see an example. Sounds cool, though.

I know it's not going to have as nice of a finish, but if you aren't sure you really want it, why don't you try plastidip first?

They have a gunmetal. Or you could get black and use the silver metalizer on top to get it to the correct brightness you want. Probably 3 cans (6 if you are doing the metalizer too) to do all the wheels. 25-60$ total is a much better trial than 100+ a wheel.

I was thinking I would try plastidip first to get a feel for it before commiting to it, in case I don't like it. Thanks Cam, I think I'll do that.

I am looking to get my wheels refinished this spring as well and have thought about going the shadow chrome route. I think it would look wicked on SGM. My car is TiAg and I'm not so sure the darker finish would work as well...

I think you'd be in good shape with shadowline (piano black) kidneys.

I think TiAg will look good with shadow chrome, considering gunmetal looks pretty good on this car. Thanks, I think I'll do it sometime this summer.

    Tip with Plasti-Dip.

Do several light coats as you normally would with it. Then OVER top of the Plasti-Dip paint whatever color you want. Since the Plasti-Dip is the base, it'll come right back off as intended.

<--- who has TiAg and pondered about a "gunmetal" type of color for the 135's.

^ Good idea about the plasti-dip as a base. I'm pretty set on getting my 135s powdercoated, but might try this with my winter wheels at the end of the season, just for kicks.
