Apologies for muddying the waters with the HK non-HK discussion (didn't catch the subtlety in the thread title).

I still think there are places where you can find speakers out there (crutchfield is a good start). Like I said, match the ohms and the physical size and you are golden.

Sorry Seth, but I still gently disagree and with the utmost respect, when you claim the head unit in our cars is "junk".

The configuratiors on crutchfield et al never serve up any results for our cars. What's the depth we're goin for on that sub?

Actually, I just checked Evernote and found my notes on the subject from a while back based on what I dug up about what others have done. Can anyone verify I'm correct with these measurements?

    FRONT TWEETER
    - 8 ohms
    - 1" diameter, could be cut to 1.25" max
    - 0.50" deep

    Upgraded to:
    - Audax
    - 8 ohm

    FRONT MIDRANGE
    - 8 ohm
    - 2.75" diameter
    - 1.25" deep

    Upgraded to:
    - found to be comparable to Peerless

    FRONT BASS
    - 2 ohms (3 with h/k)
    - 6.25" diameter
    - 2.75" deep

    upgraded to:
    - goldwood
    - 4 ohm

    OR

    - vifa
    - 4 ohm
    - midbass

    REAR DECK
    - 2 ohms (3 with h/k)
    - 6.25" diameter
    - 2.75" deep (3" hard depth)

Thought the midrange was 2.5" and 4 ohms for HK setup and tweeters 0.75" 3 ohms for HK setup.
    Don't know about depth.

Nope, you are right according to BSW the tweeters are 25 mm = 0.98 ".
    Midrange are 2.5"
and mid bass (rear deck) are 6.25"
Don't you love it when we write inches with decimals?

Indeed. But it's the BSW way. Probably hassle-free though and more expensive now compared to 2008 prices.

I did a search for my vert and nothing came up that didn't require a lot of work, so I'll probably just upgrade the fronts with BSW.

BTW, I used to think the HK system was OK, until I heard Kyle's sound. OMG! That setup is amazing. Puts the HK to shame. Now I know why people think HK is trash. Probably, for the time, it was fine, and it's still fine today depending on your expectations. I'm comfortable with my HK setup, but will probably upgrade when cash flow permits. But in comparison to what you can do today, the HK systems is like kiddie toys vs. the real deal.
