You said your "Service Engine Soon" light comes on, then clears. There will still be a code stored that tells you why it tripped.

yes, all the lights come on when i start the car... but assuming there are stored codes... where/how would i find that information?

You may be able to have codes read at your dealership for a small fee or free otherwise some parts stores have readers they will let you borrow

You need to go to Autozone and buy an obdii code reader. You're definitely going to want one if you plan on diy'ing.
