I too went OEM for the composite impeller and reasonable cost. I'll just replace it again at another 80k interval if I have the car that long. And I will, unless I replace it with a lower-mileage one at some point.

I have had the stewart water pump since I bought my car and over 100,000 miles later no hiccups, knock on wood.
I'm not so much worried about the bearing going out since I can hear that and replace relatively quickly in my driveway. My bigger concern is the plastic impeller in a cooling system which routinely heats up to high temperatures. My first e46 overheated and when we pulled the water pump we found a melted plastic impeller. Not sure if the bad impeller caused the overheating or if it was a byproduct of the high temps but I switched to metal design on that and current ZHP ever since. Besides, the plastic impellers have bearings too, right?
Going on 20k miles on this one with no problems yet.

The ZHP I bought had 100,000 miles on what apparently was the original cooling system. At least the mechanic thought so.
Seems that OEM BMW water pumps are all refurbished and packed in BMW packaging. And all are metal impellers.

The original design with the plastic impeller was obviously a faulty design. They've changed the design to a metal impeller, which had the bearing issues due to the metal material, probably from it being heavier and stressing the bearing more. The final design with the composite impeller, which is where it has been for the last few years, has proven to be a reliable design.
Not sure why the rest of you are getting metal impeller units as the OE remanufactured - my OE remanufactured unit that I just bought has a composite impeller.

Ordered a Stewart and a new thermostat. I have had them in 2 of my E36M's and they worked flawless.
I also ordered some JRZ RS2s for my M3. I can't wait to get those and the M-Performance exhaust on the car! Next is a MPerformance flat bottom alcantara wheel and MPerformance CF trim.
I went to look at an M2 as well. I would rather get an F80 M3 over that.
