Tackling the leaking collant transfer pipe in our X5 this afternoon.

    Pipe and valley pan:

And a whole bunch of gaskets:

Supposed to take about 14 hours to do so it looks like I'll be in the garage all weekend.

Isn't there a repair trick to use an extending coolant transfer pipe so you can replace it in 5 hours without removing everything else? Or is that still the 14-hour repair?

That's the URO expanding pipe in the first pic. 14 hours is the general consensus for DIY, indy shops charge about $2k but I don't know how many hours that works out to.

To replace with an OEM pipe you have to take the cams and cylinder heads off and then the front of the engine block, dealers estimate 60 hours labor and roughly $9500 total!

Yeah don't get me started on this stupid "non serviceable part" that doesn't last forever.

For people that had them leak under warranty they just put in new engines.

...are both covered by this. Stephen hit the nail on the head. Its my youngest brother's car. He recently graduated from USF (Tampa) and moved to Houston for work. He bought a pickup truck to have out in Texas (Chevy SS) and didn't want to bring the S2K out there, so it was put into storage in Tampa. He wants to sell it, so I offered to pick it up and keep it in my area so it would get noticed, and I'd also sell it. Plus, it helps us out as right now we only have the X5 for my wife and I.

Absolutely. Its an AP1, MY 2000. Its white with the awful red interior, but he swapped it out to the two tone black/tan. From what I understand, white with tan is pretty desirable (much like the amazing Alpine White/Natural Brown... ) The car is mostly stock, with a few upgrades. It has an OEM hardtop, a molded front lip, lowered on coilovers, a set of Enkei RP01 wheels (17s), K&N intake, and a Magnaflow exhaust. Aside from that, it has a rebuilt head with AP2 valvetrain and hardware (an upgrade from AP1 from what I understand), and a new clutch/flywheel. The thing runs like hell and is fun to drive, but holy hell it is unforgiving. Extremely stiff and the short wheelbase makes it crazy tail happy. Needless to say, it gets driven very gently when its wet outside.

Tomorrow I'm taking it to the local CCA Cars n Coffee (at a BMW dealer no less!) so maybe I'll grab some pics amidst all the ///M vehicles.

White on red is an extremely desirable color. The AP1's red interior I don't care much for, but I wish my AP2 had red since they toned it down a lot in the later years. The hardtop alone is worth 3-4k as well, so most people sell that separately. That car would sell pretty damn quick in Houston I imagine.
