    I compared the "trip computer" stats on the X3 and 335. Both trips were to the same destination (42 miles in morning traffic). The 335 has better MPG by 4 miles:

    2011 F25 X3 (N52 engine, 6-cyl NA)
    departure = 8:03 am
    duration = 1:06 hr
    distance = 42 mi
    consumption = 25.1 mpg
    speed = 39 mph

    2012 F30 335i (N55 engine, 6-cyl turbo)
    departure = 8:06 am
    duration = 1:06 hr
    distance = 42 mi
    consumption = 29.3 mpg
    speed = 39.3 mph

    This is where I got the info. Next week, I will try the ECO mode on the 335.

    Weight, frontal area and probably cruising rpm all add up. 335 probably spent lots of time off boost and seems predominately highway?

    Correct, my estimate is 30 miles were on the highway.

    We average about 25-26 mpg in winter and 27-28 mpg in summer with our x3 i4 turbo. Both being highway mpgs.

    In our F33 N26, I can get 32MPG easy and 35mpg highway if I milk it.

    I got 34mpg in the Zhp as well when cruising at 65mph. Highway speed has so much to do with it though.

    I love tinkering with these kinds of things. My new place is *killing* my fuel economy (basically 800 foot elevation gain over a four minute drive) - roughly 18 mpg around town, but will do 32 mpg on the highway at 75ish mph going up to Anacortes and back on a single tank

    Yeah, basically the genuine bmw part is a VDO unit with a bmw emblem stamped into it.
    Sometimes when you buy an OE part, you can see where they scratched the bmw emblem out, thereby rebranding it from genuine to OE.
    Fcp has a great article comparing/contrasting between genuine, OE and OEM

    No, haha. A friend has a house in the San Juans so I went up there last weekend. I start residency this coming Friday down here in Portland. Hopefully I'll be here for just the year - I'm reapplying so to programs in NYC where my girlfriend matched.

    Oh nice, congrats I'm sure youre excited. Family medicine if I am not mistaken? hope you match at your girlfriend's location the following cycle.
    I finished PA school and have been applying around the seattle area. Narrowly missed the deadline for a cardiovascular fellowship at UW.

    In other ZHP related news, I bought a full set of natural brown interior, including door cards with harmon kardon speakers. VERY clean and minimal wear. Lumbar and heated seats. Will be installing this summer and posting the results.
