ECS stage 1 kit. Installed March 2014.
Will be going OE BMW on the new parts.

I think that's hot! The needle was moving past the 2 o'clock position. Before that I had never seen higher than 98.

That is the exact same kit I removed from my wife's zhp. It also roughly lasted 30k. This ECS Tuning kit is crap.

The upper hose imploded and was about to burst. The expansion tank was on the verge of cracking and the cap was leaking.

Go with an OE kit from Tischer BMW.

Cooling system parts is one thing I don't mess around with. I kept trying to justify buying aftermarket for certain parts but... too many components are ones that would leave me stranded, so I had to go OEM (same parts as OE just without a BMW logo). I saved a ton of money going this route, but still ended up paying way more than aftermarket parts. It was a happy medium, I suppose.

VW has a saying: VWs love real VW parts. Same goes for BMW in certain applications. OEM all the way for cooling

Getting her towed home where I will further evaluate the source. It all happened so quick. Just refreshed cooling system less than 30k ago. Sigh...I know it's a 11 year old car and these things happen, but feeling deflated this morning...as well as my wife expressing her question of the cars overall reliability...
sorry to hear, man... my ZHP came home on a flatbed yesterday too. cooling system also! my wife called me from downtown toronto... "the coolant light came on and there is steam coming from under the hood!" fortunately she was able to pull over and shut down right away. i called CAA and they towed it home on a flatbed, 222km (good thing i have CAA, the tow was basically free - it would've been over $600!).

my wife was a bit pissed, of course - so was i, i just replaced the radiator two weeks ago but i had done almost 1000km since then with no issue. i dug into it today and found the rear hose on the expansion tank (the one that goes to the heater core) had come off - apparently i did not get it sealed properly, even though i thought i had the spring clip seated - it was about 6mm off. enough to work it's way loose off the o-ring and piss coolant everywhere...

anyway. i'm happy it was something simple, glad it was my fault and not a faulty part. going to clean it up tomorrow, refill and bleed the system. i hope your issue is something simple too.
