The xi3's we're actually the main contender when I bought the WS-80's. The consensus was that the Blizzaks were better from a snow grip perspective, if I remember correctly. It was a long time ago, I don't remember.

I've realized that living on the coast means I will likely never need the total grip the WS-80's provide, and need more dry and wet handling. I've had great experience with the LM series, so perhaps I'll give those another go. The Sottozeroes we're great as well when I had them.

Will probably be buying performance winter tires next winter season. This rubber band feeling of the WS-80's was starting to get old.
On my agenda for today. What do you mean by “rubber band feeling”? Anything like “crashiness”? ;-)

Haha. No, but when you accelerate, the revs rise - then drop - then rise - and drop again.... maybe all over a 300rpm range - but you’ve somehow gotten to 40mph. It’s a weird sensation, and not something I like.

Try one out, I think (hope) you’ll see what I mean.

Got up early to hit the garage for three hours prepping and applying optimum gloss coat to the new arcs. Pumped to get these honking things on the whip.

Winter wheels off. Summer’s on. (They do “feel” heavy while driving).

Costco mounted my two new PSSs. Now I need an alignment.

Got my rear shocks (Koni Sports) swapped out for the third time--adjusted properly this time. This job also made me realize, more than ever, that there's A LOT of bad information on the Internet: The US Air Force has deemed Nylok nuts reusable several times in all but the most critical areas (which is good enough for me), the size of the top nut on the shock is actually M10 with 1.0 pitch, said nut should be torqued to a mere 10 lb-ft (which is barely enough to stop th mount assembly from turning relative to the shaft) and, as mentioned above, the uninstalled rebound rate of the piston has nothing to do with the adjustment of adjustable shocks.

I also repainted my rear anti-sway bar, did a little more cleaning around the front wheel wells, and removed one of my struts which went very easy (getting ready to install Koni Sports in the front, too). However, changing all of my license plate screws to stainless (HIGHLY recommended) was a different story--one was so corroded I had to drill it out and replace the nut in the bracket... &%$#@!

So the autocross car got all new fluids. Minus the transmission fluid. Redline on order.

Hit the paint with a 105 cutting compound followed by wax to get that last .0001 second.

Looks like new fcab and control arms are next. Followed by a vanos refresh.

Managed to replace one Koni strut today... what a PITA. I spent half my time looking for the various parts and tools I hadn't seen in a year or more and about half an hour searching the Web to find out what in hell the little, white plastic disk was for and where to install it (Koni instructions really suck). Getting the compressed spring and assembly together and aligned was tough and figuring out how to torque the top nut of the shock shaft was fun--NOT! Well, at least it went back on the car easily enough.

bought new aspherical Euro side mirror glass from Turner (had the lowest price). my current side mirrors have the heating filament damage (whatever makes the edges look liquid-y brown) so will be a nice little refresh touch.

also i got stuck behind a caravan of trucks dropping/kicking up little rocks and got peppered pretty good on the front end. one of the rocks chipped my windshield in DIRECT LINE OF SIGHT for the driving position. pissed me off so much. now i gotta get my windshield filled. sigh.

Washed the car then installed the eagle eye LED smoked tails. Looks sooo much better and now the smoked lighting package is completed.
