I can’t imagine a 3.64 in my car. Getting on the highway with an intake+catback and sitting at almost 4k-rpm sounds...less than ideal lol.

A 3.46 seems to be ideal for what I’m looking to do. I already use 3rd/4th the most in daily driving, so I might as well make them even more usable as I get more into tracking too

There's almost no difference--probably not noticeable--between 3.38 and 3.46. 3.38 is generally preferred, because you don't typically have to change the input flange which is a tad troublesome.

Very true, but I should have no problem sourcing a cheap, local 3.46...we’ll see, I’m generally pretty indecisive until the minute I pull the trigger.

Last fall, I installed a 3.38 open diff and loved it (got it off Ebay for about $200). It really gives the car extra kick (10% mathematically) in all gears which is delightful--by far the best mod I've ever done.

I had a ‘90 5.0L Mustang with 3.73’s and it didn’t have the benefit of a sixth gear; It wasn’t unbearable on the highway with headers and a full Magnaflow exhaust. (It was considerably louder than my ZHP.)

IIRC, it was around 3k RPM at 75-80 mph.

Boy do I miss that car.

Wow, those are some pretty long gears... the 3.62 in a ZHP would be around 3k rpm at only 70mph.

It's not the car you drive, it's how you drive it.

What is the ZHP’s sixth gear ratio?

Ok - scratch that comparison...sorry. Not apples-to-apples; The Mustang had a .68 5th gear. For some reason I thought 6th gear in our cars was higher than .85.

Fifth gear is 1.00. Sixth is our overdrive.

Downshifting to fifth on the highway is practically the same thing as simulating a 3.62 with sixth gear from a revs perspective.
