Yeah, I agree. I hate to be "that guy", but I just can't really get into the newer cars much. The e92 M3 is pretty sweet looking, but most of the rest of the cars I can sort of take or leave. I don't hate them... I just don't love them like the E46.

I actually find the e92 to be my least favorite 3 series. Believe it or not I'd rank the E46 first and F8x 2nd. Thats a new design I immediately fell in love with, but only on the M models

It's been awhile since I've done anything besides cleaning and just generally enjoying the car. I did finally place an order from ECS and received the box Friday: BMW Gloss Black kidneys, aux input for nav, Mann cabin air filter and cabin air filter cover.

I replaced the kidneys before Cars and Coffee Sunday morning and I think it made a nice improvement.

Sunday night, I thought I'd take a crack at the lower grille, but decided it was more than I wanted to tackle because I decided I wanted to go ahead and pull the front bumper to clean the radiator and front end. Instead, I thought I'd go ahead and take care of the cabin air filter and cover and do a little detailing in the engine compartment.

Pulled the cabin air filter and it was filthy. According to the date code, it's likely the original. Cleaned the inside of the cabin air intake box, installed new filter and cover. Spiffy.

That's an "04" - pretty sure it was the original:

So, since the cabin air filter had never been changed, I thought, "Well, may as well check the air filter and see how old that is.

Ho Lee Shit. I now give you a 2004 BMW 330 ZHP with what I believe is likely the original air filter:

    Doesn't that look like a 2004?

It was in surprisingly good shape - at least in terms of not being full of crap. Most of what was in the folds of the filter was the foam which had long ago broken down to "foam dust".

I'm trying to figure out how it could possibly have been that clean with 42,000 miles on it. Original owner had a spare from when he bought the car and installed it at 20,000 miles?

    Crazy!

Nothing like an 11 year old air filter. Good investigative work.
