Some good and brief reviews here for those radar detectors.
I don't have one because I tend to just drive with the flow with the traffic and I would like to believe I drive pretty sensibly. I supplement that with the Waze app that people use to plug in and spot traffic, accidents, or police traps and has worked out great for me for longer trips. Haven't gotten a speeding ticket since I got my license (knock on wood).
Yeah Waze is such a good addition!! Whenever my 9500ix screamed out speed camera, I saw it on Waze.

Got myself the Waze app, and thanks to your guys' suggestions I made it the 13hour trip home without a ticket very helpful!

Glad you liked it and it was useful on your way home! It's a great app. A ton of people use it, and it's been pretty darn accurate for me. I used it across the country and on various other trips and it saved me from police traps a few times and definitely helps avoid traffic.
Congrats on your purchase, btw
I had a V1 for about a year. I liked the feature of the arrows, but I didn't ever think it was a necessity. It saved me from a lot of tickets, but it annoyed the hell out of me in meantime. I live where there are a lot of curvy, open roads and hills. Because of this, I want a radar detector that doesn't blare a lot of false alarms, but also has a lot of range. The V1 has pretty good range, but it wasn't enough for me. I switched to the Escort Redline and I couldn't be happier. The day I threw it in my car I pulled up to an intersection and it lit up a cop two miles directly to my left. On top of detecting radar from a longer distance, I've noticed that it gives me a noticeably sooner warning for laser, too.

A new sheriff is in town called the Uniden R3 and the link below will show comparisons.

My 9500ix failed because of a cracked and leaking super capacitor (2.7v 3F) which I'll replace/solder-in later and then give to my dad to replace his aging V1. My R3 has just come in so I'll pick it up within the next few days and see what all this crazy positive fuss is all about.
I've been still having fun driving in the many months without a detector and without being served. It's still important to use your brains over technology...until Tesla really does make you comfortable not using your brain to drive.

I'm looking forward to reading about this new R3. I had one of the original grey Passport 8500 X50s for probably 5 years, got hit with laser running late for work back in 2011, sold the detector to help pay the ticket, and went a good 3.5 years without one. Then I bought a V1 in 2015, loved the arrows, but my god that thing was so false-happy. Great range, loved the tone for the alerts compared to the Escort, but I couldn't stand the constant falses and I sold it last spring.
I don't drive nearly as ass-like as I did in my younger days, but this blue car isn't exactly subtle, and I'd like the peace of mind.

Supposedly Valentine (according to them, haven't read up on it) has worked on that issue, esp due to the blind spot tech on cars that was causing false positives.
