Aftermarket headers unfortunately don't seem to be a viable option, for multiple reasons:

    1) I'd have to give up the Corsa exhaust; this exhaust is way too loud with headers. This will also exceed sound limits at the tracks I frequent.
    2) I have to do emissions tests for the next 10 years before my car is exempt.
    3) I don't want my car to smell.
    4) I absolutely hate rasp, so it can't have any. Want it to sound exactly the way it does now.

It is my understanding that I can't meet all of this criteria if I do aftermarket headers. I'd like to know my options that involve keeping the Corsa and not making my ears bleed and have it sound like crap.

I will also say that I haven't researched it too much yet...

Man I hear ya. I have the exact same list of demands in a header. I have researched the ever loving piss out of catted options and settled on probably the cheapest, but most time consuming route of OE M3 headers modified to fit.

Here are two links with more info. Like I said, it's not easy, but I'm really excited about the project.

So far I've obtained a set of headers for $50 and these flanges to mate them to (big thanks to gogators for figuring out how hard it was to use OE flanges):
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/253008577732

Total cost right now is $185 for parts. Just gotta find someone to weld them up...

The M3 has rasp... I would imagine it would rasp with M3 headers, no?

I thought the M3’s rasp was caused by the midsection (section 2 maybe)? Idk I could be remembering incorrectly.

The headers cause it. Even on the M3.
I looked into this when I had my Corsa... even posted on several sites. There is no solution for the Corsa and headers and I wasn't willing to hack up my exhaust to find one.
The quietest setup would be the stock ZHP exhaust... still wouldn't work for BP though because there is still a hint of rasp.

Nice work BP. What is the smell with headers, more gas or more exhaust? Def agree re sound as from what I've heard, headers and Corsa would be extremely loud.

Sounds like it's headers + the OE section 1...?

    https://store.activeautowerke.com/pr...tive-autowerke

ThBMW Factory Section 1 with RASP like sounde Active Autowerke Exhaust SECTION 1 only comes into play if the E46 M3 already has a performance header already installed. One will experience a high smell of unburnt fuel. (due to the open exhaust w/o any catalysts) and development of a RASPY like sound of which the BMW S54 engine is notorious for with the BMW Stock Section 1 when equipped. This raspy like sound is a matter of engine sound harmonics at a specific RPM range, a sort of resonance that is very loud and noticeable when the engine is revving at or above 4,000 rpm.

This is the BMW section 1 - where the RASP like noise emits from.
