My honest opinion for you, because you're on the fence, is to start saving. If you can handle how it looks for now and for BFE, then just save your pennies for doing everything back to OE. Showing up to BFE sticker bombed you're more than likely to get more negative feedback than you would w/ a scuffed up bumper.
Personally, I'm crazy. When my paint started peeling I covered my car in a mock up of a black roof and stripes using electrical tape. I knew it wasn't going to be permanent (just like your sticker bombing) but IMO it was preferable over peeling paint. Of course I was bashed over on other forums and I'm sure I would've heard some snickering had I showed up at an event. (Heck, I get snickers now with a 135tii inspired $10k paintjob) But I have a pretty hard shell, and feel that if I like it that's all that matters.
You seem a little nervous about stepping outside the box, but if it's because you're afraid of messing up you're current bumper, you shouldn't be nervous. From the looks of it, the bumper is torn under the passenger side which when it came time to repaint would cause a lot of trouble to repair (if the body shop could do it) and might need to be replaced anyways. Also, when the bumper gets repainted they'll sand/strip most of the current paint off, and that would include any sticker residue. Covering the majority of the scrapes/damage on the bumper w/ continuous stickers and then a few well placed stickers to cover the upper blemishes would be fine and there wouldn't be a need to do the whole bumper.
So it's just up to you!
