I met the owner when picking up the car and pulled the dipstick. Barely reading at the bottom. Dumped in 2 quarts when I gassed up and brought it up between the add/full marks. Over the next 2 days and 1800 miles I added 3 more quarts. Each time the oil level was at or below the add mark but I never got any dash warnings.

So today I replace the sensor and purposely only add 5 quarts and start the car to mimic a low oil condition. Still no warnings. Dammit. Screw it. Topped it off.

I then have been wanting to adjust the OCI so I plug in with PASoft and change it and while I'm there I noticed the IKE has options to enable/disable warnings for oil consumption and oil loss.

    Attachment 35317

Long story short, is it possible that the level sensor was good all along but the input was disabled in the IKE module?

Btw, since I've started using Amsoil for my oil changes, my consumption has dropped to 1 quart every 4500 miles vs 1 every 600 when I bought it. Better/more detergents that unstuck the oil rings maybe?
Yes and yes. Both possible. Afaik, the oil level sensor is programmed as a fail-safe, in that when it starts failing, it throws the low oil light. I replaced mine thinking it was failing because the dipstick looked fine, but it turns out my oil was actually getting low but the dipstick didn't show it. Oops.

Ordered an E18 socket so I can finally deal with my weeping oil pan gasket. I’m tired of parking over top of a makeshift drip tray filled with kitty litter. Borrowing an engine support bar from a neighbor.

Also took off these front YellowStuf pads that I successfully murdered last weekend.

Comparison with a *used* street pad.

Should have the front right Brembo fixed before my next event so I can finally use the proper track pads (DTC70 front/DTC60 rear, same combo as SpecE46) I bought last year and haven’t used yet.

Coolant level sensor is the same way, from what I understand. Dash light on the X3 is saying coolant is low but the level is good, no leaks, and the temperature needle never moves past center.

Dude, those pads shouldn't have even been allowed on track... you couldn't have had much pad left before starting the event!

8mm measured last Thursday at tech inspection, 11mm of material is on new pads. I’ve never had pads wear like that before, and skipped my last session because of it.

Hey my ZHP nerds. I haven't checked here for a while, but glad to see so much cool things going on. I have to be more active here.
Anyways, today was a good day for both of my cars. Me and my wife did our first full day autocross though a local BMWCCA. So, cars got a proper shakedown. There is so much fun and excitement and the amount of seat time was good.
I definetly have to find more time in my busy summer for at least one event.
I have a dreadful picture, but both cars are here.

The drive back home from the track must’ve been interesting...

Every time I look at a pic of the M54 exhaust manifolds, I try to think why they designed them that way but I can’t think of a valid reason. So much back pressure...
