    Replace Power Steering Fluid Housing?

I am planning on doing some maintenance and I figure I might as well change the power steering fluid while I'm at it. The Bavarian Auto DIY I watched on youtube showed them changing the power fluid housing to get a fresh filter in as well. I've seen other DIYs where the housing is not changed. It is a $25-$30 part. Does anyone know if changing out the housing is recommended or is just overkill?

I'm at 41,800 miles right now.

I'm at >170k miles and have only ever done the turkey baster flush and replacement of fluid. I think entertaining this (changing housing to change filter) at 41k miles is overkill, imho.

You're looking at preventative maintenance though, and that's great. Hell, if it is cheap to do, go for it.

I'm thinking that it will be a 100,000 mile maintenance item. Unclipping the hoses is a messy operation.

For me at 42k it is overkill - baster swap should get you sleeping comfortably at night. I'd be looking for a reservoir (filter) swap around 90/100/110k.

Agree. Which means I'm 70k miles overdue....

I plan on replacing the reservoir when I upgrade my steering rack. Which is very soon. Like 2k miles. Need to buy the power steering disconnect tool to make the job easier.
