I'm placing an order with ECSTuning, so I figured Id go ahead and order my mounting bracket now. Even though I still dont have confirmation on a D5150 yet, I'll eventually need it...

Here's more information about the differences between the two "single cutout" mounting brackets...

51167001410 (http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/51167001410/ES82727/): Single cutout version w/ smoker's package
51167001408 (http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/51167001408/ES82726/): Single cutout version non-smoker's package

The non-smokers package allows for easy installation of the front storage compartment 51168208369 (http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/51168208369/ES86731/) and does not include the LED light. You can retrofit the compartment tray into a smokers unit but there's a little tab that needs to be cut out.

I decided to just get the non-smoker bracket, the front compartment and a lighter block off plug 51168222183 (http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/Lighter_Cigarette_Lighter_Block-Off_Plug/ES86890/).

That's EXACTLY what I just ordered, I spoke to Adam the other day about these different brackets. He said the 51167001408 is typically what is needed for US models. I have the cigarette lighter and ash tray and that's which one he recommended for my ZHP. It shipped out today.

Sweet, the non-smoker bracket you purchase will not have the ash try LED though... Just an FYI.
Everything else will fit just fine.

I got this message back from Eonon ref installing w/ OEM Nav:

Thanks for your email and photo.
I have checked with our technician, this unit can work with your car, but it cant be plug directly, you need to buy an adapter to install it as your plug is different. We dont have such an adapter for you, maybe you can go the following ebay store to look for it.
You may need extension cable:
If your connector is with 17pin, you may need this one,
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BMW-Wired-Cable-17-Pin-5-Meters-Extension-Cable-for-E46-E39-X5-Dash-DVD-GPS-/251242421963?pt=UK_Computing_Sound_Vision_Audio_Ca bles_Adapters&hash=item3a7f371ecb&clk_rvr_id=494138412906

And this one is for 40 pin connector,
http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-Wired-Cable-40-Pin-5-Meters-Extension-Cable-for-E46-E39-X5-Dash-DVD-GPS/181099081826?_trksid=p2045573.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3 D1%26asc%3D27%26meid%3D8636716310955804559%26pid%3 D100033%26prg%3D1011%26rk%3D1%26sd%3D181099081826% 26

I have a really stupid question... I need a confirmation from those who have the 5150 installed. Do the subs in the trunk work with the D5150? I have the Eonon HU installed and I know my sub woofers were working before I installed the 5150, but now they don't. I think it may be my sub amp - either that or the HU. Speakers seem to work - just no voltage supplied to them (confirmed with multimeter). I do have voltage going to the amp and nothing coming out so I am suspecting it's the amp and not the HU but just want to be sure.

Thanks!

scooby24
07-20-2013, 06:25 PM
When you say the speakers seem to work but no voltage supplied to them, are you saying the door speakers work, but the subs in the rear deck are not?

If you put your hand on them they aren't vibrating at all? Mine work.

BavarianZHP
07-20-2013, 06:34 PM
Sorry. All of the speakers inside work (10). Also I believe the sub woofers in the trunk (2) "work" in that they are not dead or blown - they just are not emitting any sound since no power is getting to them. My thinking is it's the sub amp (the one attached to the subwoofer) or the HU (if that's even possible with other 10 speakers inside working).

Thanks for telling me that your subs work! I think my amp must be fried.

BavarianZHP
07-24-2013, 02:54 PM
Hmmmm. Power is getting to the subwoofers but they are very, very weak. I almost couldn't tell the difference. Can I ask someone for a favor? What's the normal input voltage for the subs? I disconnected the right speaker's connector and measured something like 20 mV (yes, millivolts) difference. Is that normal? What's yours?

Sounds like your Mk IV computer is dying. That's why when I replace my OE Navigation in the ZHP this year I'm keeping everything as "spares" for the ///M which will retain the OE navigation system. What you're going through is enough justification for me to keep mine....

Just FYI, eonon has indicated they have a new CAN BUS available for purchase now, that will be in stock 8/5 and will ship out via fedex (same quick shipping as the 5150), for 57 dollars.

The new CAN BUS is claimed to fix the random input switch after restart.

So Charlie & Tom who will be the first to contact Eonon and ask if our 5150's we've been waiting a few weeks for actually come with this "New" Can Bus? Hopefully this is one of the reasons they are out of stock until next week!

Dear eonon,

Hello,

Can you tell me when the Eonon D5150 comes back in stock will it have the "Newer" Can Bus installed? Apparently after reading several BMW forums several people are complaining about the random start ups. Thanks...

Here's a quote from one of the Eonon D5150 owners on a BMW forum.

( There is a New and Improved Can Bus available from Eonon for $57 shipped. Though in reading some other forums, this "New and Improved" Can Bus was actually available months ago for folks who complained with the D5113. Guys were reporting getting a new Can Bus that fixed the random start up input issue.
Sounds like they continued to provide the old Can Bus with the D5150 units and either took too much time to restock the new Can Bus units or intentionally withheld them to sell them after the fact for additional revenue. )

- wolfn8tr

Response:

Dear wolfn8tr,

Thank you for your email.

The unit will be available in the August 8th.
Will come back to you with the tracking NO. it with the new can bus box.

Hope you have a nice day

Bait and switch!

Hi Greg, one of our customer has bought the a new CAN BUS box, but it
does not solved the problem.
In fact, they also need to exchange the power cable too.
So the price of the power cable and the can bus box is 60USD.
So you still need to send us the difference is 23USD.
Could you please send the 23USD to us? So that we can book the new can
bus box and the power cable for you together soon.

Your kind understanding will be very appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

Shitty photo but I decided to get started on the project, that way the installation tomorrow will go faster. Unfortunately I cracked one of the fins on my center vent (top right fin) when trying to remove it. So I'm looking for a replacement center vent now... :(

I just laid the factory radio in there so I have some tunes tomorrow.

9796

Tips:
- If you have a plastic pry tool, that should help with the vent. If not then just be careful.

- There's four screws that hold the "ash tray trim" in place, two up top and two at the bottom.
Remove the sunglasses pocket by simply pulling on it, now you have access to the two top phillip screws.
Then remove the shifter, shifter boot and center cube trim, now you have access to the two bottom phillip screws, and remove to remove the trim.

- The cigarette lighter socket was a pain in the ass to get out, there's two tabs that hold it in place, push them in and the socket should come out.

- The signal slot buttons is held in by torx screws, I forgot what size...

The rest is pretty self explanatory...

The vent's a real PITA the first time... Like popping your car's dash cherry, no worries though it gets worn in so the follow-ups are easier. I've opened mine up so many times now that I can easily remove the vents with just one hand. Oh, just be careful with your hand behind the A/C controls and such, I got jabbed/cut by a screw or sharp piece of metal back there - bled like a sissy.

Eonon clarified that the new CAN bus does fix the input issue but it DOES require the new wiring harness, so you can't just order the CAN bus...you have to get the wiring harness on top for those with the issue.

They've comped the cost of the wiring harness for me and should be shipping out. I'll update this thread with results.

Sure thing. I didn't fully reinstall the broken vent, so I'll snap some photos for you.

I'm guessing my unit will be here tomorrow.

Question: Do I need to keep the OEM plastic radio cage installed?
I removed mine but I'm not sure how the radio gets bolted to the console.
I'll search for a DIY thread and try and find out...

EDIT: I checked the Eonon and Dynavin install threads and I see the units have a metal bracket up top that attached to the same point that the center vents gets screwed into.
I guess there's no bottom mountings points?

No bottom mounting, it snapped in the bottom. Top screw in at the metal bracket after re-installing the vents. Just those two screws, nothing else. No cage.

Looks like the old one to me. I compared it with what photos I had originally. Guess it all depends on the wiring now.

Damit! Ok Thanks Tony...

Some exciting new!!!

It appears my unit came with the new can bus and perhaps the new power cable. I have not noticed the Aux start up issue, illumination works fine, it dims when I turn the head lights on. And Bluetooth and radio works...

Oh and they included a antenna adapter. There's a blue Ant cable coming from the adapter, I'm not sure if it goes to the Ant wire on the main harness but I've included a photo...

When I go into reverse the unit knows and blacks out and shows a little picture of a camera... Interesting.

How about running a constant 12v wire to the 528T and using the Ignition 12v wire to trigger it and power off the 5150 after the car is off? Or does the 5150 have to be turned off first before shutting off the car to maintain input memory?

Dear eonon,

Will come back to you with the tracking #. It with the new can bus box.

Hope you have a nice day

Sincerely,
Teddy

I'm horrible at stopping to take photos. I get in the zone and just go to town. Plus I don't have a garage and do it all outside in the heat, so I try to get it done ASAP. I didn't put everything back together yet, so I'll take some photos and post them.

Originally I was trying to file the plastic socket so the wires could fit through but it started to come out so I just ripped it out the rest of the way. Which allows the camera to fit in nicely. However double sided tape is required to hold it in.

Edit: Testing to make sure the camera is getting power. T-tap's works. I was concerns because the camera's power cable is a much smaller gauge then the wires going to the reverse light.

Tom, I guess I will be taking lots of pictures when I begin the process of installing my Eonon/rear view camera. I find putting out a picture-based DIY to be very helpful to others even though it does add to the install time. I have seen this too many times where people will post they did something but then when you try to see how they went about it, there's nothing.... I find that quite frustrating.

I realize it takes time and planning to make up a DIY but I find it rewarding when that DIY has been halpful to others when they attmpted doing their mods. :thumbsup

Charlie, we appreciate your time and efforts. Looking forward for your DIY !

Alfredo, it's become one of my pet peeves.... trying to research how to do something, a DIY, only to find out people who had done something awesome didn't make up a DIY or they did a half-azz job doing so. Either way, it's enough to not be of value and you're still stuck at square one...

Back a few years ago, I detailed a ZKW headlight projector retrofit that people used to do their ZKW headlight retrofits. Then I decided, I don't know why I did this, to do some maintenance on that DIY thread and ended up losing some valuable pics. With college taking up almost all of my free time, I haven't gotten back to that DIY. I'm in my final week in college right now so once this is done, I plan to reconstruct that DIY as I had promised Dane. I know in the past people were appreciative of my efforts and this is why I do this.

I look at the forum as a repository of information so that others are able to do the same DIY's on their BMW's if they choose to do so w/o having to worry about messing things up. We're supposed to help each other out and those who are "in the know" should share the information so that others can learn from them. Doing so not only adds to the appreciation of others, but also builds strong friendships. Isn't that what we're supposed to do???

There's a lot of good talent from many different members here and we all have something wonderful to contribute to a forum that's already special. w/o all the petty jealousy you see from people at other forums, we on the most part put that aside here to actually build on a positive and constructive atmosphere. This is why I tend to favor coming on this forum over others however, the other forums do offer lots in knowledge and information. At least here you can ask a question no matter how dumb it may seem to others and not worry about getting flamed for it. :)

I do believe this was posted somewhere in this thread but here it is again just incase. The Pulse Timer would work with the startup procedure beings it would delay the 5150 from coming on right away. So you would just need to shut the 5150 off first before the car.

For everyone whos hating the random boot issue here is a temporary fix.

1. Before you turn OFF your car power OFF the unit. You dont have to wait for it to shut down or anything, just hold the power button until the screen goes black and then turn OFF the car.

2. Next time you get in the car, start the engine and wait approx 5 seconds and then turn ON the unit, it will continue exactly where you were. If you turn it ON immediately after starting the car it will go random again.

This method works every single time as long as your turn OFF the deck before turning the key to OFF, and then waiting about five seconds before turning it on next time you start the car.

Ahh... I didn't realize the pulse timer delayed the head unit from turning on. I was under the impression that it simply delayed the input signal coming from the steering wheel (or Can Bus). As in, once the car is turned on the pulse timer activates which then begins a delay that prevents the can bus from sending a signal to the head unit. After the timer is complete the Can Bus works as normal. This method if possible would prevent any delay in the head units boot up.

Whats the best way to arrange the wires in the back so the unit slides in all the way?
I wonder if I could find a right angle iPod cable that could help with this issue, something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/KENWOOD-TO-IPOD-NANO-IPHONE-CAR-RADIO-ADAPTOR-CORD-5v-/250777415483 but that would work with the Eonon obviously.

I do believe it will work in that manner, it's basically a time delay relay. Just wire it into the 12 volt ignition switched + to the 5150 and set the time to 5 seconds or more.

That iPod adapter looks good. What about a angled antenna adapter also? Found both on Amazon.

Yea, but instead of it delaying the entire head unit from turning on, perhaps it can delay the Can Bus signal that sends the request for the mode to change...

Right angle adapters would be awesome!

I've been reading the D5150 thread over on E46F and someone said they tried the right-angle iPod cable that came with there Enco unit, it fit but the iPod did not work. I think the older Eonon came with a right-angle iPod cable, I wonder if that would work... Hmmm

Center Trim
- Be careful with the center vent. It's a pain in the ass to get out.
- Take your shift knob, shift boot, trim piece out completely, this will clear up space to get the ash try trim out.
- The ash try trim has four screws
- The single slot buttons is held to the trim with two torx screws.
- Cigarette socket is a pain to get out, I had to brake one of the tabs that holds it in place.

Head Unit
-If your car is 02+, the Eonon antenna adapter works. You wont need the one you purchased earlier.
- You don't need to connect the blue ANT cable coming from the supplied antenna adapter, that's only for cars before 02.
- I removed the glove box completely to route the iPod cable.
I don't only remove the glove box door, I find it easier to remove the entire glove box frame. I think there's 5-6 screws.
- Do something about the RCA caps like you mentioned, I plan on tapping mine (already lost one cap). Let me know if you find a better solution.
- Have fun routing the cables on the left, it's a TIGHT fit!
- I had to swap the blue ANT wires. Simple cut the blue wire from the Eonon harness, leave enough slap so you can tape/solder the loose ANT wire.
- I haven't routed my GPS antenna yet, I know people said having it near your A-Pillar gets a good signal.
- If you want to play with the OEM Navigation Maps, you need to go into settings and point it to the .exe file that's in one of the folders. (forget which one)
I ordered a 8GB Micro SD card so I can try some of the other NAV programs.
- I disabled the beep sound, it was driving me crazy every time I turned the knob(s).
- I also set the clock to 12hr instead of 24hr

Back Up Camera This is how I did mine, no clue how other people do it.
- Loosen the trunk liner, I removed all of the push tabs but the tool kit did not allow me to copletely remove the liner.
- Removed my license plate to make room
- Remove the four torx screws that hold the molding to the trunk.
- Remove the license plate light cover and bulb
- Rip out the light socket and cut the wires off the socket. (This may be optional but I've read people having issues fitting the camera in, my guess is they installed it with the socket still in place.
- There's three wires going to the socket, I used a multimeter to determine the positive/negative... No clue what the 3rd wire was for.
- I cut the foam liner a bit so I could route the cameras wire through the molding.
- Solder and/or electrical tape the camera's LED light to the license plate light wires you cut.
- Route the wires through the trunk release hole
- Under the trunk liner, you'll see the manual trunk release cable, near it is a black plastic piece that can come off
(I'll take a picture of it tomorrow morning for you). Removing this really helped route the cables from the outside to the inside...
- Route the wires to the right side.
- The power cable gets tapped into the reverse lights.
- The yellow feed wire gets routed down the trunk and out the hole where the rubber harness grommet comes out of. PAIN IN THE ASS TO ROUTE!
- Tomorrow I'm going to use a metal hanger and try to route the RCA cable through the rubber grommet completely, which will place the cable into the trunk.
- Although the camera sits flush, the built in clips do not work, so double sided tape is needed to hold it in place.

I emailed Eonon yesterday...

Hello,

I've received my Eonon D5150 and although I am every happy with the unit, I noticed it came with the old Can Bus that has issues.
I was under the impression that it would come with the updated Can Bus.

What can we do about this?

Thanks,

Dear Tom,

How are you?

Thanks for your business!

I appreciate that you are willing to contact us when you met a problem, thanks for your support, please don't worry,no matter what happened,we will help you.

We promise that we have sent a brand new unit to you, could you please kindly tell us what issues about the CAN BUS?your information will be appreciated.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon
Best regards
Cherry

Hello Cherry,

The main issue is when I start the car it never returns to what I was previously listening to, it always switches to a different mode. I've read on several BMW forums that everyone is experiencing this issue and that there is a new Can Bus that supposedly resolves this issue. I hope this is available because this issue is very annoying.

Also, I want to let you know that I had to switch the blue ANT cables for certain functions to work, such as CD and iPod.

I was also curious if you had a right-angle iPod cable available? The USA E46 BMW does not have a lot of space behind the unit and the supplied iPod cable barely fits. A right-angle cable would really help with this problem.

Thanks,
Tom.

Dear customer,

How are you?

Thanks for your quick reply!

We have met the same problem before, but we have help our customers solve it,it is not problem of CAN BUS,some are the problems of connection, could you please kindly try the following ways?
1.Reconnect the ACC and BATT cables to try
2.Make sure that there have enough power when you turn off the ignition
3.Make sure there have constant power between 11V-16V

For the ipod cable, kindly explain that we only have the cable which you have got,we don't have another right-angle iPod cable, hope you can understand

If it is still can't work, please kindly let us know,we will help you further

Have a nice day

Tom did you have to run a wire to the hand brake for the camera to work? If so which wire did you connect it to at the radio?

Ok so after spending all day yesterday installing the 5150 it still doesn't fit flush with the dash. I removed both the antenna plug and the iPod plug and it fits flush. Put the antenna plug back in and you can feel it hitting just before the 5150 sits flush. I can push the 5150 in and screw it down but it pushes the left side out. So the solution is you need two angled plugs. The antenna one is easy but the iPod one does not exist. The Kenwood plug posted earlier isn't the correct plug unfortunately. I do believe its a 13 Pin connector and you need a 8 Pin Mini Din or a CCD Speaker Cable, (CD Control Cable). Here is what I found after an of hour of research. Three cables needed- Cost $25

You will need a angled 8 pin plug (which is only available in female to female) and a coupler ( so you can connect the iPod cable to the female angled plug). See Below:

Did you try trimming the excess molding of the wire? I trimmed a good amount off which allowed a flush sit. Be careful when doing this that you don't cut into the wire itself.

Ya I trimmed the antenna wire quite a bit and it still doesn't sit flush, that's with the iPod cable disconnected.

As much I like the 5150 I wouldn't go thru this again, what a install nightmare. Once I get this unit to sit flush its NOT coming back out even if I get a free Can Bus box to fix the random start up issue. Also my clock keeps resetting itself after I set it to a different date and time. That's is even if I don't shut off the unit.

This is what I dealt with last night try to get everything to fit. I super glued the RCA's silicone caps on. Tied all of them up and out of the way, taped the camera RCA input on to the top, Can Bus box mounted to the top with Velcro supplied.

Does it sit flush without the antenna cable? If it does you need to cut more.

I routed all my wires to the right or under the head unit and that seemed to work well. I think the main thing is to push everything in and see where it sits. Once you get it sitting right it's no problem in the future.

So I routed the backup camera's RCA cable through the car today.
Hardest part by far was the rubber loom that attaches from the trunk lid to the car...
(I used a wire hanger, engine oil and patience...)

I ran the cable down the passenger side of the car, which just so happens to be where the large power cable coming from the battery is.

I either ruined the cable when jamming it through the rubber loom, or there's interference from the power cable.
My video feed flickr's now.. :(

Sorry to hear it's not working right, that picture quality looks really good though. That video isn't much to go by but IMO it looks like the signal coming out of the backup camera isn't strong enough and causing the Eonon to cut in/out.

Well after having this for a day here is some feedback:

-The Kudos Nav Sucks!
I entered my old home address which is only 2 miles from me. Started driving there and went in another direction, the Nav display showed me on course and driving down the freeway which I wasn't on. I sat in a parking lot as I watched the Nav display showing me driving to my destination. Ten minutes later "You have arrived at your destination! Geez...

-Radio Reception is Bad.
I can't listen to some stations at all, others fade in/out.

-Screen Glare is Bad!
My car has tinted windows and the entire front windshield tinted and the glare is really bad! See photos below

-LED's on the Buttons.
The LED's on the buttons are so dam bright at night it's annoying, why they NO Dim China?
My Screen does Dim when light are turned on.

-Clock and Date.
For some reason my clock would keep resetting itself while on 12 Hour time. I ended up turning off GPS Snyc and this fixed it.
It will not keep the correct date, it's one day behind.

-Deck Fit "See Above" post 369 & 372.
The install Sucked! The unit will not fit flush unless you butcher both the Antenna and iPod cables.
I ordered 90 degree connectors to hopefully correct this issue.

-Sound and Video.
Sound is a Major improvement!
Video play back is pretty good, no issues.

-Can Bus Random Input.
Charlie, Tom and I all ordered these around July 15th when they were out of stock.
We were told these would come with the New Can Bus box which did not.
This isn't a huge deal for me but when you tell a customer one thing and do another, well you get it.

I guess I will have to contact Eonon and find out why my unit didn't have the new Can Bus interface box (although I already know why) and see if they can send me an updated Can Bus interface box. Well that old saying "You get what you pay for", It kinda applies here. I guess the issue is it didn't fit without hacking cables and beings I'm a perfectionist that really bugged me. If the RCA wires were a bit longer and the antenna & iPod cable had a 90 degree angle on them the install would of been alot easier.
For the money it's decent, the sound is alot better and movies sound awesome on it. I don't have the iPod hooked up yet so can't say anything about that. The Bluetooth seemed to work pretty good. Didn't get the camera installed yet so can't comment on that.

If Eonon comes thru and sends us the New Can Bus boxes they said was going to be with our units and it fixes the random input upon start up then I will be Happy.....Maybe.:dunno

From E46Fanatics:
http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?p=15635769#post15635769

The verdict is the V2 Canbus works perfectly. Starts up in the same mode as when the car is turned off. I got lucky with the antenna adapter since I had an old right angle adapter in my basement and I didn't bother with the iPod adapter since I have an iPhone 5 (different connector). I'm connecting with bluetooth and that seems to work well using A2DP for music.

Sorry Gary. Those are the symptoms that we all purchase the unit for such a lower price than the dynavin. I understand that yes they should also be sending everyone a new canbus however that should be address by each person.

The symptoms and price was still a deal for me and I found ways around the random boot up and dimmer. That is something I don't mind living with since now I can have bluetooth.

I gave Charlie the disclaimer when I showed him the unit and he didn't mind the symptoms at the time of purchase. Granted eonon has developed a fix for those problems. It's usually hard to even see such a thing happen with other companies so I am relieved that they had developed a solution.

Feel free to contact them yourself. Good luck with everything. Ultimately you can always submit a claim with PayPal if you choose.

there are still a lot more advantages with this unit than the stock.

to 'fix' the random boot up, i turn off my unit before the car.

Ah, should we bug Carlos about the Can Bus? lol

Yes!

Hey Phil, just wanted to let you know I finally got it working.

Just a heads up for others, I was getting a "Out of Memory" error when trying to load iGo Primo.
I did some searching and found someone with the same issue, they were using a Mac to transfer the files just like me.
They fixed the issue by using a PC, I just booted my MBP into Win7, formatted the SD card (Fat32) and transferred the files... Now it works!

Ah Crap I just got done downloading it onto a Flashdrive using my Mac. I may be texting you tomorrow for some technical assistance. I would like to get this up a running for my drive down to Randos Friday. Thanks for the info.

No problem bro, just hit me up! I'm pretty sure you can save it and unzip it where ever you want... But I would do a fresh format of the SD card and then copy the files over while in Windows, so you dont create any OSX hidden files that could cause problems.

iGo Primo looks awesome so far, 100x better then the Kudosmap.
My biggest issue at the moment is, even after turning the volume up in iGo, when I'm listening to music the navigation voice/sounds is not loud enough... During navigation, I can barely hear the directions because of the music and it doesn't seem to fade the music much if at all. Oddly enough I noticed when I'm clicking around in iGo, the music fades just a tiny bit and then a second after I stop touching the screen, it raises back up.

Any suggestions Phil?

Tom thanks for the info, I will try that later. Also I read your reply over on E46Fanatics, well said and to the point. I did get a reply thru eBay from Eonon and they are sending a new Can Bus V2 with a wiring harness but they want me to ship the old Can Bus back. Ok...

Tom you can change this in the Settings for the Nav. I messed with mine and it does work. The "Mix Ratio" controls the volume Music vs Nav info. Also try turning off "Mixing Mode". See Below.

Eonon 5150 Manual
http://www.eonon.com/down_pdf.aspx?name=D5150%20Manual_EN.pdf

"Settings"

Time display: Display/undisplay time on top right of the screen. Hand brake: Switch on/off Brake detect.
Key tone: Switch on/off key tone.
Rearview startup: Turn on/off rearview camera.
Headlight control:Turn on/off headlight control mode. Headlight on, the screen auto dimmer. Navigation mixing: Turn on/off navigation mixing mode.
Turn on mix mode: Sound of GPS Navigation will be played with playing sound synchronously.
Turn off mix mode: When navigation sound on, the music of front speaker will stop, the rear speaker will stay on. After navigation sound stops, front speaker will continue to play music.
Mix ratio: Set mix ratio of navigation soundwith music or radio.
Radio region: User could select radio frequency from (Europe, South America, Japan, Taiwan and America). Frequency of broadcast status will run under corresponding frequency automatically once selected.
Reversing Video: on/off.Please turn off "reversing video function" if your car hasn't installed a rear view camera.

"Screen Info"
Also there is a small "Sun Icon" top middle. Press it and it changes to half moon and the screen dims, press it again and the screen is turned off. Touch the screen again to turn it on.

Looks like I overlooked an email I received from Eonon. The tracking information shows that my replacement unit is coming tomorrow.

https://www.fedex.com/fedextrack/?tracknumbers=566495839011&locale=en_HK&cntry_code=hk_english

I will be heading to Charlie's and doing the install and letting him use my updated canbus till he receives his replacement. I don't mind having the canbus issue since I have a work around for it already.

Gary - I did not connect the blue wire. I notice that the oem antenna wire is damage and that could cause the radio reception to be bad/static. I have to run a new antenna wire from the rear to the front of the car to fix the issue.

Using a class 10 speed sd card with igo is working fine for me. Sometimes it runs out of ram and doesn't load the main screen which I then need to hit the reset button but otherwise it's working.

Yea you can just use waze and play music through Bluetooth and that would solve everything.

I used a 16GB Class 10 Micro SD card. I did use Map Quest app on the way home thru my Bluetooth and it worked great for voice directions.
I loaded a bunch of pictures into a Wallpaper folder onto the same SD card and cannot get them to load for some reason.

I would get this without the maps (Kudos) as they Suck. So for $319 (if Shipping is Free) is a really good deal. I tried Kudos and it didn't work at all. I went the wrong way intentionally then parked. Kudos showed me still moving for 10 minutes then arrived at the destination.

I loaded Igo Primo 2.4 from Phillip and its way better than Kudos but I'm having some issues with it. I need to play with it more and see what's up. Might have to pick Toms brain some more. I'm getting a popping noise while in Nav mode only. The speakers pop every 30 seconds or so and is kinda annoying to say the least.

I have the Can Bus V2 coming from Eonon to fix the random start up issues. My 90 degree antenna cable arrived today and looks like it will work. I have the 90 degree iPod cable ready to go, just waiting on the Can Bus relay.

- Hmm, I've noticed some random popping... I don't think there's any consistency in when it happens. I'll just have to to keep better track of it though.
I still haven't secured my RCA caps, so I thought it might be that.

- While using the navigation, I was getting "Failed to open file: $poi_mapdistant.bmp exiting application." error, I think it had something to do with the zoom out feature while on a long route. So I disabled it and it hasn't happened again. I'll re-test tomorrow to ensure the issue has been resolved.

- Also my low guidance voice has improved. I reset iGo and that seemed to fix it. I'm using TTS Jill.

- I'm just waiting on my right-angle iPod extension cable(s) and V2 Can Bus so I can put it all back together.

- Backup camera still flickers while my headlights are on... I might work on that in the future but I can deal with it for now.

Since we were planning to send the new unit with the new can bus box.

Your behavior here reminds me of when Apple reduced the cost of their original iPhones by $200 and all the initial adopters began wining about the cost difference.

This is why whenever I see something interesting, I wait and let things settle before making the jump. I can say I didn't expect to get the V2 Can Bus but when I was assured my unit would come with it (ebay auction and coorespondance with Eonon) and it arrived with the original V1 Can Bus, of course I sent them an email asking why I got the V1 version instead of the V2. You would have done the same thing.

I don't consider Eonon's customer service a joke. Rather, they have been completely up front with Gary, Tony, and I thus far :thumbsup Even Tony (tnhl1989) had issues with his Eonon and they told him to send it back in and Tony got his replacement head unit with no issues. That's customer service if you ask me. If you approach things in a negative light, which is my impression based on your comments above, then you won't get anything positive no matter your approach. Try being positive....it's much better :thumbsup Also, swearing like this is not required here....we don't do this here....nono

Your behavior here reminds me of when Apple reduced the cost of their original iPhones by $200 and all the initial adopters began wining about the cost difference.

There's a difference between a price drop/difference and defective hardware, in warranty, that some people are getting replacements for free and others are having to pay for. Your analogy is off, fundamentally.

You're right, and I did. I requested updates on the can bus investigation periodically. Several of us did. You're welcome for pushing and helping contribute to eonon's decision to develop a new version and include it in their current batch. Those of us that got the original batch dealt with the problems you didn't have to. Had to find out how to fix Eonon's wiring harness mistake, how to trim back their ipod and antenna adapters so the unit will fit, then shared all this info so others would even consider buying this severely flawed unit. We helped support this company and now are told to fork over more dough to get the same fixed hardware. If you think that's a good customer service approach, you clearly have never experienced good customer service.

I'm glad you and your little group got taken care of. Not your problem, right? I've tried a positive approach, that's what led to me paying for a new can bus, being told I'd also have to pay for a new wiring harness. Only when I logged a paypal dispute for the can bus cost was I told I would get the wiring harness comp'd. This company doesn't do things right the first time, like they should.

And I'm sorry my swearing bothered you. Try putting on some big boy pants.

Whoa... So are we going E46Fanatics on this Topic? I can totally understand being frustrated about having to pay for a new Can Bus and Harness. BTW we do have to pay to send our old Can Bus and Harness back to Eonon. I would see if Carlos can help you out over on E46 group buy or just do as we the "Small Cool Guys Group" did and be persistent and ask nicely. Or if you don't feel like you should pay for one then don't and just live with it. Taking out your frustration on US isn't really doing anything positive.

Tnhl1989
08-20-2013, 06:44 AM
Yes please keep all comments positive. Everyone on here is allowed to vent but to take your frustrations on us is not really going to solve anything.

I have had my share of frustrations however I constantly contact eonon about my problems. I also found ways to solve their defects as they are offering a decent device for the valued price.

I made this thread in hopes to inform and solve as many problems as we can with this device. All this venting doesn't provide a great atmosphere for this forum as I for one hope to only provide information to solve and make our cars a little bit more special.

As for my replacement it did cost me some money to send the device back and get it replaced. I created a relationship with eonon and they provided me with the service that I had received. It took about a month and half for me to get my replacement unit since they were out of stock as well. I hope you understand that being humble and patience pays off in the end. Good luck.

To be honest for what I paid ($350) even with the small issues we are having it's totally worth it. The Group Buy over on E46Fanatics will be $319 with NO maps! I would get in on that and then just get Igo Primo 2.4 for Free from us and load that sucker onto a 8GB Class 10 Micro SD Card and you Golden!
As far as the install and getting it to sit flush, I'm pretty sure the 90 degree antenna cable and iPod cable I just got will do the trick. I'm just waiting on the Can Bus V2 to arrive to throw these in and test. So the only other minor issue is the glare of the screen which I got some anti glare screens to try out and see if they do any good.
(Edit: Tried one last night. It was kinda hard getting in on without looking like crap. This morning while driving to work my touch screen wasn't working at all. Peeled that anti glare screen off and now it's fine. Oh well...)

Here are some reasons buy it:
-Navigation
-Improved Sound Quality
-iPod
-Bluetooth
-Music thru Bluetooth (A2DP)
-Backup Camera
-Watch Movies

I bought the same "iPod" cables as Gary. They definitely solve the issue of allowing the head unit to slide all the way back but they introduce a new issue of their own.

In addition to the iPod cable(s), I also installed a new antenna adapter. A Metra 40-EU10. It's much thinner then the Eonon antenna adapter and very flexible.

In order to install the antenna cable, I have to apply a little stress to the iPod cable which I'm a bit concerned about. I plan to trim the iPod cable a bit, I think that should help.

Since I have no clue when the V2 Can Bus will arrive, tomorrow I will organize the RCA's and put everything back together.

Very cool Tom, nice review. It looks like you can easily trim off a few of those ribs on the iPod cable to make more room for the antenna. Man if that cable only turned the other direction! I have the 90 degree antenna adapter, curious if it will allow for more room. I'm waiting for the new Can Bus to get here first.

Oh Ya the Anti Glare screen didn't work at all. It didn't cut down on the glare and it rendered the screen inoperative. Maybe because it was a cheap eBay one.

Here are some photos showing how flush the unit is now. It goes in super easy, no fussing or jamming.

The E46F group buy is tempting me. I'm just a bit overwhelmed on the issues and what needs to be separately ordered, etc,.

The issues are minor, really and with $25 bucks you'll have everything you need (Cables + SD Card).
$13 more for the back up camera.

Even with the headaches, it's completely worth it IMO.

EDIT: Forgot about the Bezel $83.00 http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E46-330i-M54_3.0L/Interior/Sound_System/Navigation/

As Tom stated the issues are minor. If you ditch Kudos Nav and go with IGo Primo 2 it's way better. I have it available for those that want it, so does Phillip which I got it from. The new units are shipping with the new Can Bus V2 which fixes the random input start up issue and also dims the buttons along with the screen. For the money you really can't beat it.

When I ordered my 5150 it was "out of stock" after I placed my order and paid for it. I was in constant contact with customer support (which was great btw) and was told it would be approx 3 weeks and it would come with the New Can Bus V2. It did not and I'm still waiting for the New one to arrive, it's been over 10 days. I was also told they want me to send the old one back to them in China, why?? This was Eonon's mistake Not mine, why should I have to pay to return it to China?

I purchased my 5150 from Eonon's eBay store. This was after guys were getting units with the new Can Bus V2 which is one of the reasons I waited to buy it. I even sent Eonon messages about this and was told "don't worry the 5150 you receive will come with the new V2 Can Bus". Well it didn't and I'm still waiting for Eonon to send it. Frustrating...

The 5150 is a really nice unit in alot of ways for the money.

Eonon's Response:
Hi WOLFN8TR, yes ebay only has 1 year warranty, which is different from the 2 year warranty of our official website.

About your can bus, as long as the ebay customer service has promised you, it should be on the way, you just need to wait for a while with patience, thanks!

And please understand as a big company, we have different departments to be responsible for customer service of each Eonon store. I’m responsible for the customers from our official website. For your case, please kindly contact related ebay CS directly, they will also take good care of you, thanks a lot!

Glad to hear you like our unit a lot! Yes Eonon is famous for “great value for the money”!

You're surprised? Really?

Eonon does not treat all of their customers equally or fairly. That's a fact.

BTW I just got notification my canbus and harness shipped out today. I was originally told 8/5 and then two thursdays ago I was told it would ship 8/16 and it finally just shipped today.

Damn now I won't buy it.

I would still buy it even after all this. It really is a sweet unit. I can even deal with the random start up issue even if the new Can Bus doesn't fix it. Don't let our petty frustrations sway your decision on purchasing the 5150.

If I was lied to by Eonon, forced to pay for the unit + shipping, waited a month to get it and it turns out it doesn't fix the issue, I would let that sink in long and hard and decide for yourselves why you would continue to support a company like that.

What are the alternatives, $1000+ for a Dynavin, $1500-2000 for a double din retrofit.

$320-400 is a pretty damn good price for what this unit does.
There's definitely a few kinks but nothing super serious.

Same here! Check this out, I got this from E46Fanactics 5150 thread:

I experimented with an antenna adapter that would allow a direct connection from the factory antenna connection. It is a CT27AA44 Fakra to ISO Short Version Adapter by www.connects2.com. I bought it from a UK seller and it was about $15 shipped which was a bit pricey (UK post was most of the cost).

I had a second reason for trying this which is I had theorized that the Eonon antenna adapter causes a small bit of signal loss because of the unused amplifier circuit. Reception wasn't awful but one sports station in particular that had been cutting out.

Results were mostly positive. The adapter did allow for a direct 90 degree connection and it did (subjectively) very slightly improve the reception since the station that had been cutting out no longer does although radio reception is still not quite as good as the stock radio.

Fit in the dash was tighter than with the 90 degree cable I was using but it is acceptable.
