So if I can get my custom tune finalized before going home for a day or two before heading down south with friends for Spring Break, I'm gonna try to throw her on the dyno and see what she'll do. I'm working with a local guy here who's custom tuning for me for FREE! Super nice guy and he's helped me out a lot. Still have some kinks to work out but if I can get it on the dyno I'll let y'all know!

They aren't slow by any means, if it's a recent version of it. They have decent torque and don't feel slow by any means compared to our ZHPs. Compared to a 335, however, quite a few otherwise "not slow" cars feel slow. :(

They are also very easy to get a lot more power out of... I'll agree, not slow by any means.

Yeah it's a 2010 Audi TDI. 140hp/236ftlbs I believe. 0-60 is around 8 seconds. Tuning them really pumps them up though! My mom got her's with 8k miles on it and is currently at 85k so once it hits 100k and is out of Audi warranty, probably next year since she drives a lot, my dad says it will be tuned! It actually handles VERY well honestly

So back on this wheel discussion. Tires are about toast and so the time is approaching very soon. I'm still interested in either:
1) Miro 111 if I can find them
2) NEW Apex EC-7 19" wheel (new release)
3) or the avant garde M590

I've spent hours on the forum and can't find another set other than these 3 that I think would look good and are reputable brands. Also the wheel I choose will be SILVER, no black wheels (ew), maybe possibly consider a light gunmetal though...hmm

Miro 19x8.5, 19x9.5
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/15/puvyqena.jpg

Apex will be running 19x9, 19x9.5
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/15/e3y3epe6.jpg

Avant Garde (the more aggressive looking wheel IMO) 19x8.5, 19x9.5
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/15/eryra4ah.jpg
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/15/yjaqumy7.jpg

Here's my thinking. The Miros aren't made anymore AFAIK and are $ cause of it. The apex's are proven wheels, somewhat bland look but flow with the softer e92 body lines. Finally the AGs are a touch more aggressive looking but I'm not sure my car can pull they look off since I don't have m-sport or am lowered, yet. I can't decide for the life of me!!

I know it's my car and I should pick what I want but I can't.

Someone help me decide haha.

HokieZHP
05-15-2014, 08:38 PM
I just saw the announcement for the PS7 wheels today. Unfortunately. I need new tires sooner than they'll be released most likely :/

They looks similar to the VMR V710 or AG m310s IMO

UdubBadger
05-16-2014, 04:41 AM
Same. I was thinking I'd do those too but after looking them over more I'm more inclined to grab the EC7s for the BBS look.

Good point. The ps-7 are also almost identical design to the VMR v710 and AG m310 after looking at them more. The ec-7 just look so plain.

I'm super picky about my wheels I just can't decide and after seeing the AG M590 photoshopped on my car, I'm not a fan. And now I'm looking into suspension for my car as well for a drop which isn't helping the $$ situation..

I need new tires which means wheels now or it'll be another year or so but I'm wondering if wheels without a drop will be ok.

Btw here's the photoshop of the m590s
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/17/4azatady.jpg

HokieZHP
05-16-2014, 11:05 PM
Now that I'm looking more towards the ec-7 as of now, the miro 111 wheels are coming back to mind as they're similar spoke design but a tad more flare which I like

Is there a wheel similar to the Miro 111 but from a more reputable company?? I've heard many horror stories about Miro wheels

Got my new free mishimoto intercooler installed. Definitely a nice power bump and I can actually do back to back pulls now with no power fade. Also pulls harder to redline. I'm seeing about a 20* IAT increase compared to the 50+* I was seeing beforehand. Very happy with it and now my car is FBO!

Install took 30 mins or so from jacking up the car to getting it back on the ground. Very easy install and excellent fit and finish!

I hate when people say this. Not bagging on you Dario but it's like - aren't we all 1st world inhabitants? So every problem you or I have is a "first world problem"? Doesn't make it any less frustrating or valid to express displeasure with. Plus it makes it seem like whoever is saying it is superior and doesn't complain when a waiter brings them the wrong steak.

I know man, again wasn't attacking you by any means. I've just heard that phrase a lot around here lately.

What does everyone expect? Maintaining and modding our cars is why we are here - we care. If someone is having a rough time with something why do we need to belittle it? It's important to them. You wouldn't piss all over Mario Andretti if he got mad his transmission was jamming up - why do we chastise each other when our hard earned money gets wasted on the wrong parts or have to deal with an unexpected fix of something?

Dis is a brother (and sister in some cases) hood. Let's be good to our family.

The main factor on whether or not I switch is gonna be how different that tune is going to be to my current custom tune. I have a pro tuning freaks rep tuning my car now and it's fully dialed in on my stage 2 map. So I'm wondering if it'll be worth the $$ to switch to Cobb for maybe 10-15 hp. I'm going to lunch with my tuner and talk to him about it and see if it'll really be worth it. At this point it's not so much about power as it is drivability, reliability and the smoothness of the power curve and such.

Also if I switch it will to be to a tune with large support and following like Cobb or jb4. I played around with a jb4 car running e85 the other day and it was really cool but I don't want to take my computer to datalog and I don't want to have to buy a dp fix to pass emissions. The on the fly map switching and gauge hacking is sweet though! The openflash tablet was introduced and updates were coming out like crazy but now shiv has apparently lost interest in the N54 platform and isn't around at all, meaning the support is gone. Luckily my tuner offered to tune mine even though he's a Cobb guy but he's done a fantastic job! I love my tablet though which is why there will have to be a few big reasons to get me to switch.

UdubBadger
06-17-2014, 03:11 PM
You should talk to Jerry before you buy. The N54 cars we had as shop cars made just as much power FBO as those big guys did and ours was s m o o t h as a baby's butt. Just saying. We have a 7 day money back guarantee so if you don't like it no worries.

Seth, was emailing with your guys but since I already have a guy doing my custom tuning for free, the whole cost of the unit + tuning was too much for me. Appreciate the direction though. After thinking about it, I'm going to stick with what I have until I upgrade to something worth needing an alternative tune, meth or different turbos for example.

On another note, a buddy of mine just told me that he's getting rid of his BC coils at the end of the summer hopefully with only 6k miles on them and I have first dibbs! Seriously considering picking these up since he'll help me install them and wheels are in the very near future as well (end of summer). Really excited as this will be the first car I put suspension and wheels on!

My goal is to have this be my car by end of summer! Found this pic on instagram and this is what it would look like with the wheels/coils I'd be getting. Still contemplating the front lip though. it's an OEM aero lip which I like since it's different than the normal M-tech bumper 99% of coupe drivers put on.

Thanks! Really excited for the end of the summer!

Yeah those would definitely still be a year or two off. My turbos only have 20k on them. Then again, if I upgraded turbos, for the money vs. power gains, the ST makes much more sense since RB's realistically only net 60-80hp. Whereas a ST can run 650-700hp without breaking a sweat on a stock motor with stock internals.

My current setup is enough to keep me entertained for now, but I'm used to this much power now so it doesn't seem all that fast anymore haha. Need more BOOST!

QC_ZHP
07-03-2014, 07:37 AM
Haha boost is very addicting. I've seen some good setups with RB's and JB4 and its relatively easy on the wallet. I agree with you though, a single setup can put down some really good numbers. N54 is no joke!

HokieZHP
07-03-2014, 07:58 AM

Need more BOOST!

I miss boost sometimes...I may or may not have made blowoff valve sounds in the ZHP downshifting... :shift But then I floor it around a corner and the wheel stays put and the car stays planted...unlike the Speed3.

Also, I'm liking the plans for the car. Personally, I'd go for the lip, it complements the lowered look.

HokieZHP
07-07-2014, 06:43 PM
I'm not a fan of BOVs but I may have to get one. The stock charge pipes don't tolerate high boost for too terribly long and the diverter valves start leaking. So an upgraded charge pipe and bov are in the future since the BOV holds boost extremely well.

Yeah I'm probably gonna go for the lip. A friend of mine just told me he's got a paint shop and can paint it for me!

Second, I ended up blowing out a few transistors that control the injectors in my DME which basically made the car run on 2 cylinders and sounded like a tractor. I was 100 miles from school and luckily my friend in town was able to come get me late at night with a trailer. He towed me back and I started investigating what happened. After a bunch of research I found out it was the transistors which was only a problem with the early MSD80 DME's which was sort of annoying. Had to order a solder rework station and ordered new transistors from Digikey. A week or so later I had the DME out of the car and replaced all 6 transistors just for peace of mind. Car runs great now after almost a week and a half off the road! Glad I could DIY this cause a new DME and programming at the stealership is $$$$!

Once I got them replaced I tried out my first tank of e85. Put in 4 gallons and filled the rest up with 93. Hot damn this thing is quick now! I switched up tunes from a straight flash to try out a BMS JB4 along with a backend flash which allows me to switch to a normal 93 ocatne map to an e85 map instantly. It's addictive for sure but I don't have a station close by so this will be a rare treat. I'm amazed at the kick you get from e85 though!

Lastly, I should be getting my new coils installed this Saturday! Can't wait to get them on! They're a set of BC coils I'm getting from a friend with 2k miles on them. He just finished his custom widebody 335 sedan that he did himself and now that he's running an almost solid rear end along with 295/325 tires, he just upgraded to a set of custom ordered Ground Control coils which means I'm getting coils for cheap. And he said if I detailed his dads truck, he'll install them for free for me which is a pretty sweet deal!

I did actually take a short video haha. I revved it at the end and it sounds awful. Camera couldn't really capture it well though. Codes showed misfires on cylinders 1,2,4,6. I was at WOT in 1st gear trying to get it up the trailer and it took me several tries to get it up. I ended up having to have the car pushed back by the guys who came to get me and had to get a running start to get it on the trailer since the winch normally on the trailer wasn't working. It had ZERO power whatsoever.
