Since someone stole the WTF Noise title, I had to just name this what it is. I get a strange noise when I start the car when the engine is cold. It happens directly after the engine turns over. I have a video with sound of the noise here:
http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/i398/booneflyfisher/th_2011-02-09_09-04-35_803.jpg (http://s1091.photobucket.com/albums/i398/booneflyfisher/?action=view&current=2011-02-09_09-04-35_803.mp4)

Anyone have any ideas? :dunno It has not been happening for very long. My AC compressor is not on (the snowflake is not lit when the car starts)

Thanks for any help or direction with this one.

The onlt noise I know that is typical is the sec air pump. It does not sound like that.

Sounds like the starter to me?

I would prolly start ruling some stuff out, by pulling the belts and doing the pulley test.

Guess I should have mentioned that I had the belt and pulleys changed out 3 months ago. And water pump 1 month ago.

ok....well......You need to start your car.....with someone else's head in the engine compartment, to try and isolate the noise. Actually...other person should start the car. This other person can be anyone......

I cant see the video since I'm at school, but it is it like a "whooshing" sound? Mine makes that sort of noise every morning, usually just as the engine has turned over. It also takes slightly longer to start in the morning.

I say possibly starter related. I first thought pulley, but since they are new I doubt it.

How many miles on the car??

Coool

I am betting it is a starter. I mean not 100% sure from just the video, but a guess

It sounded to me like the started was staying engaged....kinda like when you try to start a car...that is already running.

Bro...does it kinda sound like that...for just an instant?

I had some belt/pulley's noises start up and it sounded more like a high pitch squeal. Nothing like this though.

Could be starter related, as Dane pointed out.

Yeah, Maybe it does sound a little like that. Im gonna try to get my brother to start the car tonight and stick my head in the engine bay and locate the problem area. I will post again when i at least know the general area the sound is coming from.
