View Full Version : Ideas on this End link rattle?

My end link (guessing that's what you call it, I'm not a suspension guy) has a slight rattle to it. You can hear it at slow speeds, especially going over bumps. They are fairly new (less then 2 years old)... should I replace it or not worry about it? Also, is it a straightforward DIY or is it better to have a shop do it? Will I need an alignment after? I'm enclosing a pic and a video of the noise. The video is with someone turning the steering wheel while the car is jacked up. (Will insert video soon).

Straight forward DIY JR, other than the skinny open ended wrench you need to hold the ball joint to get the nut off.

Also.... Can't do one side at a time (Sway bar). Raise the entire front end.

Thanks Dane. Here's the video. It seems more an annoyance than anything dangerous... so you think something that needs to be done asap or just when I get to it? (Just press on the picture and the video will load/play in photobucket).

Was it the bottom ball joint on the end link?

JR.... You could actually drive your car forever with no endlinks.

But... You wouldn't want to drive it, like it was meant to be driven that way.

I would swap... "when you get to it"

As Mr Wilson states, quite an easy fix and cheap. Those are the adjustable ones I assume.

Thanks. They are adjustable. Guessing I buy the new ones and just line it up with the one I remove for install?

Yes, measure them and make sure they are the same length.

You don't need adjustable JR.

Is that a standard length, he is running HR struts, right?

When I bought the H&R kit I was told by TMS it's best to get adjustable, so yes, they are adjustable. I'd just get non adjustable if that's OK, but I'd like to know for sure.

I noticed you had FKs before. What did you think of them?

John, I had the same low speed clunk over bumps and it was definitely the part you're replacing. Like Dane said, you have to lift the whole front and the height that fits in is the correct lenght with no measurement needed.

Replaced with non adjustable end links on both sides just so they are the same and to eliminate the chance of this happening again. Issue resolved.
