I just helped my bro buy some E38 contour seats from a wrecking yard to fit into his E39. Needless to say, I'm green with envy and started thinking about which seats I can find to improve my driving comfort level... Can we directly swap in E46 M seats? I have a sedan with alcantara interior if that makes a difference. Looking at some of these (in my dreams):

M3 seats will fit your car, I believe.

I believe you can use them, but not sure. Personally I wouldn't put coupe/vert seats into a sedan. I wouldn't even put vert seats in my coupe.

I know you can get Vader's to fit, but you have to slot the holes so it lines up with the mounting points on the E46. You would therefore have to look for those from a 97 or 98 M3

I believe Charlie (CakM3) has made this mod to his zhp. You may ask him about it.

They bolt right up and the electrical will work too. But they never made M seats for a sedan so you have to deal with the coupe hook thing on the side (used for letting people into the back of the coupe).

you can swap M seats into your car as long as you swap the seat rails. :) I am jealous. I want those seats powered!

Yeah, the hooks would look odd but I think having adjustable bolsters and lumbar would be worth it though. I took an 7 hr drive yesterday and the E46 seats just didn't cut it for me. My back was really wishing I had the lumbar option.

i just did the swap the hooks i removed and just left the trim piece as far as the seats they "had" power/heat/lumbar but i just used my Manual sport sedan seat frames (no power adjustments) i did this so i did not have to change seat rails i left the heat and lumbar in the frames but my car is/was bone stock with just the sport upgrade so not wired for any of these options so at some point i am going to try to wire/retrofit the lumbar and heat to work (there are diy's for this) but you really have to be Motivated to complete the process (and it took me 2 years just to install the seats lol)

If I could get M3 seats with the same cloth/alcantara covers as the stock ZHP seats I would do the swap in a heart beat.

I would love to have some low mileage e90 M3 seats in my ZHP...

At nearly 123k and 10.5 years old, my passenger seat looks great, but the drivers seat is showing some wear/age.

I would suggest some e9x sport seats. Lumbar, heat, and powered bolsters. I drove my 335 to ny (9 hours) and I was very comfortable! Way better than the e46 seats

Personally, if I owned a sedan I would try to get E38 heated/lumbar sports seats

Why is that?

Shoulders are adjustable as well

Edit: technically those are called Sport Comfort seats, there is a Sport seat without the shoulder adjustment

Thanks for keeping me on track BP. Alzheimer's seems to be kicking in at a young age. He did swap seats in the M though, right? (though it may have been from another E46 M3.)

AKA Contour seats. They're the seats I had to transport for my bro. They are touted as one of the most comfortable BMW seats ever made. I don't think the E38 seats are a direct swap for the e46.

He swapped seats in his M3.
I get bouts of memory farts as well, though perhaps a little too often. :(
