walked out to my car today and found this:

http://s9.postimg.org/bw8j2t6q7/damage.jpg

based on the location of the damage (none occurred below the wheel well), i've concluded it had to have happened while i was parked at target for like 20 minutes after work today. i think some truck/suv backed into it and just drove off. no note.

i am pretty bummed about it. gonna make an appt tomorrow with a body shop. i just got thecar up to tip-top and this happened. was really proud that she had never seen body work. at least it doesn't affect driveability i guess..

Shit, Wes. Sorry to hear. Assholes really make life interesting, eh?

Don't worry about the body work thing. Get it done well and it'll never make a difference.

Jeez O'Pete...

I have two fenders but they are for sedan :(

File a claim and get it done through an official BMW Collision Repair Center.

So unfortunate. I hope that you won't have to pay out of pocket for it. Best of luck I'm sure she will look better than ever afterwards!

This happens VERY often! People don't pay attention and go "Oh snap!", and get out of dodge.

Worst case scenario, fender gets replaced and she's good as new.

Sucks but hey, could have been a lot worse! I count my blessings since a truck driver ran me off the road and I flipped 3 times.

Before...

After...

http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s268/mluman83/IMG_1114.jpg (http://s154.photobucket.com/user/mluman83/media/IMG_1114.jpg.html)

On a side note... when I was in high school, about 7 months fresh with my license, I was backing out of a parking spot at the mall with my truck and scraped an older Honda Civic along the drivers side door with my bumper. I freaked and left.:shifty

On another note, when I was living in Vermont, it was super nasty icy out and my summer tires decided to slip and I made contact with a car behind me in the parking lot. I thought I should repair my karma and left a note. They called me 3 hours later and told me not to worry about it. They said they already told the insurance that there was no note and said they would cover it. Never heard another word about it:applause2

This totally sucks... I just went through it, and well, I did a couple upgrades to make getting over it a little easier. I still think it sucks.

Definitely enough to ruin your day, though it could obviously be worse.

Sounds about right for a Target parking lot...a small step above the Walmart parking lot...

Sucks. That's why I park in a different zip code and walk 5 miles when I take the ZHP shopping- because people suck.

that's the thing. i was waldo parked at the far end of the lot. not a car within 50 feet. that's what is baffling me.

so far since i've had the car, it's been:

- keyed along the driver side above rear wheel well.
- scuffed along rear bumper where it curves right below the driver side tail light (probably a crappy parallel job).
- scratched on rear bumper above exhaust (no idea how this happened).
- collision damage along pass side front quarter panel due to being hit in a parking lot.

i hate people! (not you guys)

So sorry. Did it crack the paint? A good PDR shop may be able to put it back right. Assuming this would be cheaper than your deductible.

Wes, sorry to hear the news. Difficult to tell from the pics, but hopefully PDR can come to the rescue. When I had my Ford Tempo, one gate closed on my front panel and left a nasty, long dent. The PDR guy did a very decent job, and I was happy to keep the OEM paint. Take your time and find the best PDR guy in Houston so he can check the damage.

Sorry to hear the awful news so close to the holidays, and here I was pissed off at a couple of mysterious scratches and paint chips. Would an alarm activate on such an impact? I think more people would be hesitant to drive off if the car they hit started wailing and getting everyone's attention. I don't have an alarm on the ZHP and it's always concerned me. I wish you luck with the repairs.

Dam that Sucks! I can only imagine how mad you were seeing that. How can someone do damage like that and just drive away is beyond me. Good luck with the repair Wes.

Great reviews. You will be amazed at what a good PDR tech can do. Wish they could have helped me with the owie on my front left quarter, but the damage is too extensive and paint is fractured. Keep us posted.

Hey Wes what about Targets Surveillance cameras? Might be worth looking into.

i have to file a police report yada yada for Target to do anything. they are numbskulls anyway. plus i was parked so far in the back of the lot i doubt you could make out a plate.

the PDR guy is working on my car right now. he said he can fix the body panels and remove dents but there's a couple spots where the paint broke right between the quarter panel and hood that i will need to address with some touch up paint. we'll see how it looks, should be done in a couple hrs. he is charging me a flat $200, vs. getting insurance and deductibles involved.

Hey Wes what about Targets Surveillance cameras? Might be worth looking into.

I think it varies from location to location - my local one doesn't have any in the parking lot, only in the rear but the Target that is in another city nearby has one on every light pole.

You can definitely try asking Target to check the tapes for you assuming they are recorded and saved, but they are not legally obligated to help you....I remember as a kid, my dad's Quest was hit pretty bad in a McDonald's parking lot. He asked the manager for the segment - this one camera directly overlooking the van was right there - but they said no and threatened to call the cops on him. :facepalm

Sounds good on the price. I had some work done by a mobile paint guy I found via Angie's List and a friend at work. He did a pretty nice job )in my garage on a freezing cold day) of blending in a spot on my wife's TSX that didn't like the unusually high curb it met. He also worked on peeling silver paint on my old '02 33Oi. The PDR guy might have a recommendation.

car is done. looks 99% perfect. there is one spot that needs touch up, as mentioned, aside from that it's hard to tell there was ever any damage.

call me a very satisfied customer. did not think it would be this easy!

yeah i am astounded the turnaround happened so quickly. i will get pics up after work.

if anyone in the Houston area ever needs PDR, Dent Dogs are awesome! The guy drove to my office building's parking garage and followed me up to the top floor where he went right to work. only took him about an hour.

Glad you got it PDR'd out! I am have been thinking of getting PDR for three dents. One is on roof near front, one is left rear quarter panel right in front of left rear wheel, and there's a new small one on one of the right doors, probably a parking lot door ding. The roof and left rear ones have zero paint damage, but I can't figure out how the guy would get tools to the back of the left side dents. (For door ding I know how to remove front door panels and assume rear door panels are similar.) Maybe he could reach the roof one by removing the sunroof switches? And the left rear by removing the wheel and wheel well liners? I saw a video where a PDR guy did an amazing job on the right rear quarter of a car (not E46)--he removed a rear tail light and inserted the tools through there.

Those guys are good (if they have been trained and had lots of practice). You will be surprised at that they can get to. It's all about leverage too. For doors the most often go down the track with the window glass except on cars w/ double pane glass like Mercs ,etc.

Glad it came out nice Wes.
