View Full Version : Did someone steal my trunk roundel?

Hey all, I came out to my car the other day and noticed that my trunk roundel had either been scraped off flaked off or stolen. The place I park where I work is a bit sketchy so it would not surprise me if someone just peeled it off. It's also been pretty cold so maybe it flaked off on its own. Has this happened to anyone else?

Lol that's disappointing either way.
The roundel sticker on one of my 325's ZSP wheels peeled off on its own. Hopefully they're not the same sticker.

I've seen a ton of BMW's like that (mostly when searching for the ZHP and my bro's 530i). Never was quite sure what happened to the roundels. I haven't experienced this yet.

Thanks guys. It really irks me so I think I'm just going to replace it. Do all of the regular places sell it? (Bimmian/Khoalty/ECS/etc)
I've replaced a few, the last one the BMW dealer installed for free while I waited.
FYI; they used a piece of plastic box banding to remove the old one. Just slipped it under what's left and pull straight out or up depending on Boot or Bonnet.

Turner has them for about $30. Everyone else has the ones that don't say "BMW" on them for about $20.

I have roundels from Khoalty and the quality has been very good. Mine are over two years old with no visible wear.

Khoalty has them for $15, but they don't have "BMW" on the outer black ring do they?

Yes they do. I think the image on their website is weird. Posting a pic of my roundel.

+1. My dealer used the same trick on my car.

Does the kit include the grommets to install it on the trunk/hood (assuming it's the same grommets)?

I don't know about the kit. But, very likely you can reuse the old grommets. They should stay in place when you remove the roundel.

I think grommets are sold separately. They are fairly inexpensive though and also sold by khoalty

OP, you may want to check on ebay. FYI, I bought an used OEM hood emblem on April-2012. It was $ 10 including S/H.

They can't show the "BMW" in the picture because of copyright issues. They all have them.

I reused the 30 year old gromets on my E21. They rarely "go bad"

Jedi,
I have a couple in the garage that someone gave me, don't know of they are trunk or hood emblems, if you're ever here the price is right, free.

The grommets in my E30 were fine after I replaced my roundels on it. The car was between 21-24 years old at the time, I don't remember.

The labels blow off the cheap roundels.

You're better off buying OEM if you don't want this to happen again - they're pretty cheap. PN #51148219237, $26-$30 depending on the retailer.

I've seen oem roundels peel off as well. Not sure that they're that much better (or any better).
The ones I bought from Khoalty have been on the car for over two years and still look brand new.

Good data. I've only ever had this happen to a cheaper roundel. Never original BMW. Could have just been a bad one.

It wouldn't surprise me if it was a cheap-o version on there from the PO.

I ended up ordering last night from Khoalty on kayger12's advice. (couldn't help myself so I got a few other goodies as well)
Thanks all!
