So some of you have heard, some of you haven't. I am the new co owner of a photography forum called autophotog.com. The forum was created in late '09 by a friend of mine but ultimately lost steam because of lack of support and maintenance due to his high demand job as a financial consultant for Goldman Sachs. In late mid 2013 the domain lapsed, forum was filled with spam and had periods of 90-100 days without a user log in - a ghost town.
I have kept in touch with my friend even through this and expressed over the last year my interest in starting it back up after I had finished school and secured a job. We finally got together and decided it was time to get back in.
So here we go, we have reached out to many old users, placed the appropriate advertisements on facebook and elsewhere, and are now opening our doors again while still tweaking a few odds and ends.
Our goal is to be a forum anyone who enjoys cars and cameras can come to show their work, see other peoples work (more on this in a minute), participate in contests for prizes (in the near future) and get help with their own work - such as lighting, camera settings, composition and all of that - from one of the many "pros" we have enlisted as forum leaders.
So as far as this forum leaders thing goes, we've enlisted help from a few of the best up and coming automotive (and non) photographers I know. John Zhang of 1013mm is an old friend who will be checking in, Dale Martin who is doing great work down in Texas right now, Jeremy Cliff who is a local Chicagoan and making a big name for himself, and one of my closest photographer friends and mentors, Johan Lee. We will be featuring work from all of these photographers starting with Johan which will debut this weekend. We are also lucky enough to be graced by the presence of one Pswirley (you might know him as Casey Withers :wub) who will be heading up our Non Automotive section with his wonderful fitness/glamor and fine art work from CWMG. I can't tell you how excited I am for each and every one of them to be with us, it is truly an honor to be surrounded with such great talent.
So the format has been set and now we just wait on traffic to pick up and hope and pray it's a success. We have a blog set up that will be a front page soon, where we will post the features, some tutorials from our forum leaders and all of that goodness.
If anyone is inclined to sign up and start posting we are slowly getting some traffic (and could obviously use more in our infancy stage) so please feel free to at www.autophotog.com and you can put down SDA referred you (thats me). Additionally, if you enjoy the forums, please don't hesitate to spread the word.
Thanks for looking guys!
