$400 shipped or best reasonable offer.

Had this in the Alpine white ZHP for a few hundred miles. Had my tech pull it out during cooling system overhaul to fund cooling system overhaul :facepalm

This was used for approximately 20k miles on total. In perfect working condition.

Any noticeable gains?

For me, no idea. I did VANOS, fan delete, disa, and other things at the same time as TB, so I don't know what provided my actual increase. I have heard that it feels better at mid to higher revs.

In other words, that $400 could be better spent on something else...like maintenance, right?

It depends on how you define "better". That DTB is a badass little unit. Ask Bruce (BCS_ZHP)

All mods are relative.

If you want real gains for the money: stickers.

Dinan TB by itself, you won't notice that much difference. But as part of an overall planned upgrade to make it breathe better, feed fuel/air better, & purge spent gases better - a total package - I believe the Dinan TB was a critical part. Here's what we did to a stock ZHP for our power gain:

- Dinan TB ($400 Bill is asking is a good price)
- AFE CAI ($330 from AutoAnything)
- Stett upper & lower intake boots ($60 via CL)
- Magnaflow catback exhaust (virtually free in a swap, should cost you $500+ for a good used catback exhaust)
- Active Autowerke custom tune to match the above upgrades ($500)

Add it up, in our case we only spent about $1300 for a power bump, I'm guessing we gained about 10%, or approximately 25 hp, so that's about $50 per each hp gain. The car will break traction and spin a tire from a roll, with DSC engaged, it shouldn't be able to do that but it does. Preston & I were quite satisfied with the return on the investment but it was planned up front as a total upgrade package applied in steps, it luckily fell into place faster than we expected.

For comparison, we bought a planned package from Bimmerworld for Preston's first e46, a 323ci, and saw improvement but not of the same magnitude. That BW package consisted of an AFE CAI, HKS catback exhaust, & the Shark injector fuel/air S/W update, the package sold for $1500 in 2010. It definitely had more power after that, but it wouldn't break a tire loose when accelerating from a roll. I know there are other factors at work here (e.g., started with 2 different base engine power levels on the 2 cars that essentially were of the same weight), so it's not a true apples-to-apples comparison.

I have no tangible data (dyno sheets) to back up what we experienced, I just know from modding the multiple e46s we've owned/played with what we experienced. And it made me a believer in the Dinan TB if it is part of an overall upgrade plan of mods to collectively improve the breathing, feeding, & exhausting of the M54 engine. Who knows, if this TB is not snatched up soon by someone here, I may grab it for a potential future project.

Work keeping me tied up more than I'd like it to. I'm in SoCal, saw Joop's post, but I have a dinner event with the Marine Corps Assoc that I'm attending in half an hour. Full calendar tomorrow & then fly back to the frigid east coast Friday morning.

Not to rub it in too much, I left DC National airport on Tuesday at 7 degrees, landed in SanDiego at 62, drove to meet JP in Ramona at 78 degrees and then to Camp Pendleton & 65. Today it was real foggy & the overcast didn't really burn off, a cold day for the coast as it didn't top 70. You can break out the sympathy violins now, lol.

I wouldn't say that. All these performance mods help a little, each contributing to a better overall feel IMHO. I'd say if it was a choice, then yes, maint. I have nothing pressing for maint so the TB made sense to me a part of my mod plan.

I really like/love my Dinan TB. I think it helped out on the throttle response a tiny bit. Then again that is probably all relative but whatever.

Like John said, every little mod adds up to a better performing engine and more enjoyable ride

@bullfrog, I was told the same thing by William, who has a bored TB (not Dinan, but still). Throttle response is the biggest gain... And after driving his zhp last night, I can attest to it being quite snappy! Even for an old man convertible!! :biggrin

I will update this post soon as I will be installing my Dinan TB and getting the Dinan stage 3 software as well. At that point, I'll have all of the Dinan engine mods available for our car... I'll post the results. Of course, most of the HP will come from putting the "DINAN3" badge on the trunk. :biggrin
