View Full Version : Getting ready to install my Dinan TB, what else while I'm in there?

So I'e been looking online and trying to find the answer to my question... The hard part about getting ready to do something fairly involved in the car (that I haven't done before) is knowing what else I should be doing while I'm in there...

So, the main result is to install the Dinan TB... But, getting there will reveal a lot of other parts that might need replacement, or at least should be replaced while I'm in there...

So, what are those parts? The list I've compiled so far...

-upper and lower intake boots
-DISA (will do the GAS rebuild kit)

Help me grow this list... In return for your help, I will compile a master DIY as I do the job...

Might as well do CCV while you are at it, unless it's been done recently.

Try to get Stett boots, both upper & lower. With the Dinan TB and an aftermarket CAI, the OEM boots are just a tad too long and will kink which negates the smooth air flow you're after. The Stett boots are made such that you can easily trim them to get a perfect fit.

Is that a "while you're in there job" though?

Oh, buy a new $5 F connector for the upper boot and 4-5" of that small vacuum line that connects to the F connector, dealer should have both.

If I were messing with the TB purposely and the CCV/hoses/dipstick o-ring/ lower intake boot had not been done in the last 75k then I would say a definitive Yes.

Great info guys, thanks all around. I will put the F connector on the list, and I'll see what I can do about the Stett boots. Bruce, your info was good. My buddy said the boots don't fit perfectly... He wasn't super impressed with them.

Somebody had mentioned you can use the intake boot from the 3.0L X3. That design is a single boot instead of 2 like on our cars.

Didn't remember that post. Has anyone actually done this here?

The Stett boots are made such that you can easily trim them to get a perfect fit.

They must have changed their design as the ones I got from them 6 months ago utilizes an integrated sealing ring on the connection to the TB and both sides of the coupler. The rings seat in the grooves to reduce the pressure needed by the hose clamp. Nice design but they are too long overall and by the time you get to the MAF connection, that you can trim, the angle is off.

So what did you to do get yours to fit right William? Joop, if you do go that route, order them early. They are usually back ordered by months.

I'll get them from someone else, not waiting months... I'm planning to do all this work in a couple of weeks.

Here is some info that might help from when we did Johns DINAN throttle body. Cut the old intake boots off with a razor knife, makes it way easier to remove. Buy a flexible nut driver for those hard to reach hose clamps. I got one on eBay that worked great and it was a 1/4 drive so you can use any socket with it.

- Remove and clean ICV
- Install throttle body
- Instal G.A.S DISA
- Install New Intake Boots
- Install New F Connector

Good time to do the OFHG and CCV.

Thanks everyone for your input. Did the install yesterday and all went really well. I replaced the boots and f connector while I was in there, and cleaned the ICV. It was nasty. The DISA is pretty new, so I just cleaned it up and put it back. Overall, a very easy job. DIY with pics coming soon.

Sorry to bump an old thread but is it required to reset the DME adapations when you install the TB?

No, but it's a good idea.

Anyone know the correct size of these vacuum lines attached to the F connector? And where the little one ends? Small one broke so u want to replace it but not sure what size and how long it is.

3.5 x 7.5MM & I believe it connects to a hard vacuum line that is easily reachable.
Here is what I used when I did mine...cut ot size!:

Since the larger one was disintegrating as well, I went ahead and replaced that too:
