View Full Version : Questions about Torque and Android

Android gurus, I'm looking into hardwiring an old phone next to my rear view mirror to monitor data on my car 24/7, and I have a few questions.

What Android phone can I get for under $120 (used of course) that would support the latest OS and the latest version of Torque ?
Does Torque play well with E46's ? Some of the things I want that come to mind are oil temp, coolant temp, battery voltage.
I figure for hardwiring, a good source would be one of these V1 DIY's. If anyone has done this or have any pointers I'd appreciate it.
Any suggestions for a decent mount ?

Cheers :)

Only thing I can really comment on is the apo itself.

I have been using for a while and its awesome.

I can't remember if it does oil temp but it does work well for voltage and coolant temp.

Plus it makes reading codes super easy.

Bought it through the ZHP Mafia Amazon store. :)

Works quite nicely. Buy the non-XL one if you don't have a gigantic phone like I do (Samsung Galaxy Note). Fairly sturdy and much better constructed than all the other mounts I've seen. Sticks to my dash and windshield well. Mounted my phone just above my vents above the radio on the dash in landscape mode and it doesn't obstruct the view of the road at all. Is great for when I have my phone plugged into the aux jack and is especially awesome when using Navigation.

Be right back!

Edit: ... and I'm back with photos! I also took some that include my dash cam mount if anyone's interested in seeing that. :)

I haven't been able to get OIL temp read out on torque. Coolant temp and tranny temp yes. There is a voltage readout but somehow it's not the same as what you can get through doing the voltage test through the ECU.

Very nice, thanks. What's the LED thing in your vent?

BMW "Natural Air" air freshener. :) Makes my car smell purdy plus the red compliments the Imola and other red bits inside quite nicely.

Not available at the dealer in North America from what I understand. I bought mine off of some sort of Euro dealership on eBay.

Haha, no! You have your choice of balancing amber, which to me smells like a nice subtle men's cologne, purifying green tea, which pretty much smells as the name suggests or energizing tonic, which smells a bit like a cross between fresh laundry as well as your "typical" air freshener scent. They're all quite pleasant, actually. They're natural smells which is nice. I especially like how I can control how much of the scent comes out. They do not, however, last particularly long.

Very interesting. I'll be in Germany in 2 weeks, I'll do some research on those.

Looks great... how did you stick the suction cup to your dash? Is anything permanent?

Thanks
