It's a sad day...

Parking lot collision. But when two tanks smash even at low speed this is the result.

Fender and door shell are completely done. I just hope that when they pull the fender off, the chassis frame is not too bent. Body shop is working on an estimate.

The only bright side to this is that it is still drive-able and my alignment seems to be okay. But tonight I drink in grief.

Sorry to hear, but totally fixable. You'll be up and running soon enough.

Sorry to hear, man. You can definitely tell there was a lot of weight involved there. Fingers crossed it's easily fixed.

Good guy Mafia. No one pointing out that I was turning left, and therefor automatically the one at fault ^_^ I suppose that's hard to deduce from the photo though lol

First time for everything I guess. Just wish it didn't have to be in my zhp

:( That's such a bummer, I hope the estimate from the body shop isn't too bad!

$4900 is the estimated damage. 1.3k in parts, 3k in labor and paint. Ouch...At least my deductible is pretty low

And I made it very clear that this is a "special" 330 with the m tech ii body kit. It's a reputable body shop so I'm not too worried about them screwing it up haha

Is it just superficial panel damage?

Hope you're back on the road soon.

Is it just superficial panel damage?

From what is visible, one of the brackets that the fender bolts to is bent slightly but shouldn't be a problem. I won't know if structural damage is more severe until I drop it off next week and they begin tearing it apart.

Hope you're back on the road soon.

I haven't left the road (yet), car still runs fine. Skyline blvd on tap this weekend, just with less style points :D

Finally got my car into the shop on Monday, but..

Terrible, horrible, very bad news. After fender removal, more significant damage was found to the door hinge/subframe. The new repair estimate has been upped to $11k ($2,700 parts, $7200 in labor). I am waiting to hear back from my claim adjuster, but am afraid that my car will be totaled and a salvage title, especially with the newfound frame damage. The extensive amount of labor that needs to be done at this point is very discouraging as well (much of the work - dash removal, sheet metal welding - will need to be sublet to different companies).

Very unfortunate considering it was a parking lot fender bender. I'll see what my options are after I talk to my insurance company today. I'm going to do whatever I can to keep the car because I have become very attached to it and it still drives awesome.

Buy it back and have that pulled out. Nothing major is going on there.

Aw sorry to hear about the bad news man. That would break my heart too. Might not hurt to show those pictures and the estimate to another shop to get a 2nd opinion.

I would buy the car back as well if it ends up being totaled. That sheet-metal can be pulled out or replaced

Holy crap! As if such a seemingly small incident may total it. :( Absolute bummer man, sorry to hear!

Being that your car is an '06 you should be ok in terms of salvage. My car was an '04 and they found $14K in damages, so it was definitely totaled. That being said, if it is totaled, let it go, once something is bent/straightened, it is never as strong as it initially was. I know that's a hard truth, trust me, I was in your shoes not long ago... But, in the end, you may end up with a car you like even more... That happened for me... :)

If they do fix it, even better! Good luck. :thumbsup

Update:
4/4 - Insurance approves new $11500 estimate for repairs
4/4 - New hinge pillar is rush ordered from BMW in Germany. Needs to be machined first
4/17 - Hinge pillar arrives, repairs begin

Today I was sent this picture of the current state of my car. It makes me awfully sad seeing it like this.

They estimate the finish date will be 5/9. I was planning on Bimmerfest this year but I might be cutting it close.

I'm also having irrational fears about the repairs... I really hope everything is aligned correctly and no new noises or rattles. :(

Hold fast and keep the faith. Dont accept the car until you are happy with it and make the shop well aware of your intentions.

Car looks to be in good hands thus far.
