The ZHP has been on the garage since December and I just got around to doing this...
Man , that was easy! Basically remove the air box, fan, alternator and power steering pump. I replaced the pulleys on the idler and tensioner wile I was in there... Both were getting really noisy.

Here are a few pics for those who haven't seen this yet

Look at all that oil! Leaky main seal? Oil pan gasket? Nope! All from that pesky gasket...

With the alt and pump removed the blue bungee is holding up the PS pump

Housing removed and area cleaned up

Good deal Rob. Did this last year as well. Well worth the time and money ($5).

Not hard, but IMO a pesky job.

I agree.....doesn't look hard. Just time consuming.

I remember doing that when I bought my car. All that work to replace a $5 gasket! German Auto Solutions needs to make some of these out of Hi Temp material.

It seems all BMW gaskets are crap. For instance, the 4.8is has the same problem except on that motor, the the oil filter is underneath the motor so it's just an alternator bracket... And it's full of oil, WTF?
The dealer has a job description called "re-seal motor". Basically it's replacing every gasket on the motor...

I've done two of these. Very straight forward. Love the fact that you only spend $5 for the part.

How does this job compare to the vanes seals?

Much easier...
