It doesn't (even though it looks that way). Lateral deceleration forces when he struck the first rocks in the yawing slide deployed them.

That is some scary shit. Every time I get behind the wheel I have a thought that something like that could happen to me. Makes me have a lot more situational awareness when driving.

Watching it over, I think you're right. He got lucky then that the rear hit initially so the bags were ready to go when the door area hit.
