Hey guys, my name's Dan, and I live in LI. I'm 18, and currently drive an '03 325i. I just finished up my senior year, and have been working 2 well paying jobs. I'm excited to say that I will be looking into ZHP's later this summer. Now, here's where advice from you guys comes into play. Mileage? Pricing? Looking to spend about 15k on a ZHP, but I'm definitely flexible. What kind of specs would I be looking at with such a price range? Thanks guys !

Welcome. For that price range you should have the pick of the litter (almost). Looking for sedan, coupe, vert?

To be honest, I have a desire for a coupe, but would love either. I am gonna' make a nice amount of money this summer, and can sell my 325i for 5-6k, so it should work out nicely.

Awesome. Where are you located? We usually keep an eye out for good deals on here and post them in the classifieds section. Keep your eyes peeled on there, I've seen a few pop up recently that look very well taken care of including other member's cars.

I'm on Long Island ! I'm eager to learn more and more about the E46 chassis, and hopefully it translate well into the ZHP. By the time I have it, Im hoping I can do most DIY on my own. Any help counts! Thanks.

Sounds familiar! I learn new things about my car all the time, and it feels great to DIY even the little things.

The guides on here as well as E46fanatics are good places to start:

$15k will get you a mint, low-mileage example. $11-12k gets you something with a good interior, good paint, and 120k-ish miles, I think this is the sweet spot. The 160k-mile+ cars go for $9k-ish and lower, price is correlated with maintenance, condition, and history at that point.

Keep in mind this is for manual cars - take off ~$2k for automatics as this is how the market seems to behave right now.

Also, list your 325 early, as they sell quite a bit slower than 330s.

Good luck!

Yes, I still have to decide on Manual or AT...How much you think it'll cost for a 330ci with maybe 85k-90k AT ? I'm going to sell my 325i before summer ends.

If you can handle driving a MT everyday, I say go for it. The driving experience is much better in a MT IMHO

I think because I'm only 18, and live where I live, in might be a better idea to drive an AT. Don't have to worry about the clutch, and won't be shifting up and down with the traffic.

If you do decide to go w/ AT, I know a really nice car that is for sale! ;-) --we have a thread or two on AT Vs. MT if you want to read them.

Where are you located?

Clutch in our ZHP's is excellent though. Mine was replaced at 160k, and roverT's was at 171k on his OE clutch with no signs of wear when his car was totaled. E46 AT's are also prone to failure past the 100k mark if not properly maintained.

Yeah, you're definitely right on that. It'll be a tough decision cause of all the factors I must consider at my age.
