View Full Version : Help finding salvage manual ZHP-Donor for trans swap?

Hey all,
After debating back and forth I have decided to search for a donor manual trans. I should've stuck out for a manual in the first place, but it's a long story. Sorry automatic drivers, but I really want to learn to skill of manual driving and actually being involved in the car. The ZHP is a wonderful machine but seems to lack something without the manual. Anybody know where I could find a salvaged ZHP where I can pull the trans and drive shaft and clutch assembly? I'll probably keep my auto trans as a standby because my vin will still read out as an auto. Thanks!

Thanks Dane! Hope he sees this! I'd even repair a salvage zhp manual and give it another chance at life...

it doesnt have to be from a zhp, all facelift 330's came with the necessary parts

I know, but I can score the zhp shifter too.

I'm Dario. Unforunately, my donor car was an auto and that tranny is already sold, but if you need help finding some I know quite a few places to look. JP knows quite a few salvage places, as well.

If you mean the ZHP shift lever, you'll want to replace it either way. It's nice, but nothing amazing.

Okay. As you know, pretty rare. You're more likely to find a ZHP manual instead of a regular 330. At least that's what experience tells me.

I'll keep an eye out.

Shift lever retails for like $40! Don't skip a good 6-speed only for that.

And IIRC 2002 330i's had a 5-speed even though they were facelift... I think.

Pretty cool. Keep in mind price will probably be much higher than that but ZHP parts move real quickly on other BMW forums so you should break even on the whole thing. If you actually buy this and end up parting it out I'm calling dibs on the window trim LOL

Flywheels are the same as regular 330 I believe. The better flywheel thing is a myth from what I hear.

I think they simply advertised it on the ZHP flyer while they didn't on the regular 330's. It's probably much better than what the 5-speed had, but probably not different between ZHP and non-ZHP post-2003 cars.

Edit: I just read through the 2003 ZHP brochure and 2005 E46 brochure (which includes info on ZHP) and the word "flywheel" doesn't appear in either. I wonder where this comes from.

I've seen it numerous places online but must be false, I trust the flyer... Where did you get a flyer btw I want one because I show my car too.

Check out IAAI (Insurance Auto Auctions Inc), too. They have a great selection of cars, and usually more BMW's than Copart.

IF you find a ZHP donor make sure to swap the instrument cluster too

Yes and no...

besides needle color (which is actually a M thing) the auto cluster has a panel for gear selection that manual cluster does not. Most people don't notice but it would bother me
