View Full Version : Completed: Nuts for OEM M3 strut bar

Hey all,

I just purchased a used M3 strut bar and realized that you need a special collared nut (actually, six of them) to install the bar. Assuming that these are not locking nuts, I was wondering if anyone has an extra set they'd be willing to part with at a reasonable price?

Thanks,
Ayan

Hopefully someone has some for you, they are not cheap from the dealer. I bought a used bar and the seller didn't give me the bolts either.

Sounds like they 'have you guys buy the nuts'.

They aren't locking. I may have some in my miscellaneous parts. I found a bag of nuts and caps the other day. Will check when I get home.

Yes, upon closer examination of the pics they see to have blue loctite inside. Please let me know if you find them!! Thanks for checking.

easy to buy at dealer

the important part - they have sleeves to align the bar

Hi 330i ZHP, actually they are not so easy to buy at the dealer. They want $16.50 EACH and initially said that they came in packs of ten from Germany, and I would have to buy all ten! Now they are relenting on that, but it's still $165 plus 13% tax to buy not a bar, but just the f#%^ing nuts!

Hey Stuart,
Thanks for your post with all the details. The problem is that I am in Canada.

If I order stuff from a US retailer, I need to pay for shipping, brokerage, duties and taxes. By the time I do that, the ~USD60 you quote up top becomes CAD150 really quick. I'm hoping that there's someone with a set of these kicking around that can sell them to me at a reasonable price and ship them USPS to me. If the value is in the ~$30 range, USPS doesn't incur brokerage, duties or taxes. So then I'm in for CAD35 or 40.

Thanks for your thoughts though, I appreciate you trying to help out!

Thx Stuart, Shawn. I've got postings for used ones up on a couple of boards, so I'll see if I get a response in the next day or two and let you know if I need the help of an Amerifriend.

I actually took possession of the bar today, and arrived home a couple of hours ago. I'm going to check the fit in the AM; if there is enough thread for the stock nuts to fully engage, do I need the collared ones for alignment, or is their purpose strictly to ensure sufficient thread engagement?

the collared nuts help align the bar - you could likely get by with the stock bolts

Hey Stuart,
Thanks for your post with all the details. The problem is that I am in Canada.

Whereabouts in Canada are you? Here in Vancouver everybody ships their stuff to Blaine, WA and pops over the border to pick it up. There's a half dozen businesses in Blaine that receive stuff for a small fee.

Hey Stewbie, I'm in Ottawa. I definitely do the same for larger orders, but we still have to pay taxes and duties at the border, so the saving is in the shipping... but you pay $5 for the receiving, $6 in tolls, and $30 in gas... so its worth it for big orders, not so much for small.

It looks like the guys Johal suggested may ship to Canada cheap. I will be talking to them.

Thanks for all the family support!

So I bought the nuts from http://thebmwminipartstore.com/ who had not only the best price, but reasonable shipping to Canada. The only downside is that USPS is the slow boat, so it may be a couple of weeks before my package arrives. :roundel

This is the closest emoticon I could find to "the pee pee dance" which is what I am doing anxiously awaiting my parts!

Are they a BMW dealer? I didn't like that their webiste has absolutely no phone number or address info, only a "contact us" form. That's a little sketchy.
