View Full Version : Terrible luck

Driving back home in the middle of nowhere last night and I had the misfortune of a semi blowing a tire and having it hit me on the passenger side.

Had my side skirt ripped off (which I ran half a mile down the highway to go get) and thrown down the highway as well as my front bumper pulled loose and the foglight smashed to pieces.
It also seems like the inner-liner for the wheel well wall is completely ripped to shreds. Does anyone happen to know of a part number or place where I can find one? Been looking everywhere and haven't been able to find it.

Aside from that got the side skirt back on, the clips are damaged and it has a few paint chips but it looks to be usable. Really wish I had splurged and got full coverage but given how everything has turned out I certainly feel lucky things weren't way worse.

Wouldn't it be the trucks insurance responsible?

The truck didn't stop at all. I had to pull over since the plastic in the tire well was rubbing on my tire. By the time I got it out of the way and found my side skirt the truck was gone :(

Glad that's all the damage that was done and you could fix the skirt.

I bought my wheel well cover from bavauto (http://www.bavauto.com/fland.asp?part=51%2071%208%20265%20468&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=googlebase&utm_source=51%2071%208%20265%20468&utm_source=ChannelAdvisor&source=CSE&CAWELAID=120131870003465045&CAGPSPN=pla&catargetid=120131870004057799&cadevice=c&gclid=CjwKEAjw9LKeBRDurOugs43jnlgSJACUXqHxKqcjQ_DN tQmBqEoeC4h3OsPi1L4SudsHyv_ejTMk-hoCZNLw_wcB). There is a lower part (seems to be the broken one) that wraps towards the front of the car.

Rubber should be able to polish away. Still... Sucks. :( I'd be bummed.

Thanks guys.

Got the rubber off with some rubbing alcohol + paper towels. Going to just get her working again for now and replace the side skirt + front bumper when I have more liquid cash.
I got pretty lucky since the door only has a couple of tiny paint chips and nothing more serious.
For now I just need to worry about getting her road worthy and making her pretty is going to have to be put on the backburner.

@oli77 - Thanks for the link! Got me pointed in the right direction. Hoping I can find that other piece

Honestly, when it happened I was pretty much freaking out.
I've had terrible luck since I got my ZHP.

A tire blew out and the driver didn't stop? WTF?

Not unreasonable. If it blew, you can't change it on the side of the road. And since trucks have so many tires, one blowing out won't force a stop... it can keep going.

Unless the blown tire is the front tire Dario....

Unfortunately some truckers use retread tires which tear apart like what you had described OP. Sorry this happened to you....I ran into a similar situation last year on the Jersey Turnpike on my way south when driving my ///M.... fortunately I was able to avoid all the debris from the blown tire. The semi kept on going since the blown tire was in back...

No matter what, it sucks...

I've seen it happen, luckily far enough ahead... To give them the benefit of the doubt, I'm not sure they notice it ???

The noise from when the tire blows is insane. But this is why I avoid driving next to big trucks.

Usually I pass them as quickly as possible but I had someone box me in next to the truck driving below the speed limit in the passing lane. :(

Filed a claim with my insurance and it looks like they would be willing to cover it. But given my deductible I might as well do it myself for cheaper.
Figure I can deal with a few paint chips on my side skirt until I go for a full repaint on my car later

+1 and I speed by like noted above. Had one blow next to me years ago on the interstate. A memorable event #skidmarks

This is why I used to run a dashcam. :)

Glad the damage is relatively minimal and you're okay. That must have been scary!
