15862Hi frnds
I got a pair of Bilstien HD struts for my front wheels. I am a little confused because i couldnt fine a bump stop for the struts. I came to know that they have a bump stop built into the struts. In that case wont there be a metal to metal contact between the shaft of the strutss and the strut mount? Can help me out with it. The struts have been lying around in my garage for two weeks now. Thank you.

Photo below of our stock front suspension (with spring compressor on, but not yet tightened down) when I was changing over to my Konis this spring. Bump stop is the foam piece shown in the middle of the spring compressor and wraps around the shiny part of the strut. They are usually reusable unless destroyed on your car, so you would be able to swap them out off of the old struts and install on the new ones. If they are destroyed, then new ones from BMW would probably be a good idea. Hope this helps!

PS - If you end up with a shorter spring setup later on, you may need to trim the bump stops down just a bit, depending on the amount of drop.

the bilsteins are inverted, so the top is actually on the bottom. :) and yes, the bumpstops are internal.

I can see them and they r not damaged but bilstien HD have thicker shaft for their struts. So the bump stops wont go in as they do in case of a normal strut. I asked ppl and they say u dont need them for Bilstiens as they r inverted. I'm just concerned abt the metal to metal contact between the shaft of the strut and the shock mount..

yes, see my previous post - they are inverted, mono-tube shocks - the bumpstop is internal, and at the bottom.

there will be no metal-to-metal contact if you assemble it correctly.

Did they raise the front end of your car?
The high pressure in the shock body adds to effective spring rate and can raise the ride height somewhat.
Great to hear it is smooth. Is it harsh at all?
