View Full Version : Radio mounting bracket questions

As I work through the list of issues with my new-to-me ZHP, I've come to the ashtray assembly. I knew it would not open prior to buying the car. Given a 13 hour ride home, I had to have access to the lighter/power, so I broke it open.

Given that, I need a new radio mounting bracket. When going to order it, I discovered there are two kinds (single slot and multi-slot). Based on the picture of my set up, which do I have? Forgive me if it's an obvious answer. I've only ever seen this set up. And, if you're wondering, the amount of dog hair visible is a good indication of the amount of dog hair the rest of the interior contained. :(

And, once I get the right part in my possession, is there a tutorial someone can point me to on how to remove the broken one and install the new one?

Oh crap. I have to pull the radio and the HVAC just to fix the damn ashtray door?? That's depressing to discover.

It's not that hard, I've done it a few times

It is not difficult at all.

Sorry, I should have been more specific, the beginning of the first post in that thread explains the difference between the two different versions of the part.

I've changed out that exact part, you don't have to remove the radio.

I made a quick video showing the how to remove that piece. The second set of screws I'm pointing to are to remove the shifter surround. You don't have to completely remove it, just up and back a little to reveal the two screws holding in the bottom of the part you're trying to remove.

Yeah, you can take it apart without removing the radio. The key is to get the sunglass tray out which can be tricky

Everything is easy, after having done it once.

Thank you very much for the video. That is immensely helpful and means I don't have to remove the radio and HVAC! I owe you a drink!

Do you still have the cover? I need the silver plastic piece on the top. Willing to buy.

Yes, I actually do. I threw the lid away, but the little silver plastic piece popped off when I was removing the broken lid and I happened to stick it way back in my center console. It's still there! If you'll PM me your address, I'll happily send it to you. No money required!

And thanks to everyone who commented in this thread. I have all of my center console put back together and it looks awesome!
