Hi everyone,

I've been a reader for several months, I finally fully registered and here's my into.

I picked up this ORIENTBLAU METALLIC (317) w/ Black leather back in May of 2014, it had 158,000 kms. It's an early 2003 build with AL bi-xenons, steptronic auto.

Although its not a full ZHP, its one of the closely-optioned Canadian cars.

Some notable options:

coolant exp tank

on the todo list:
fuel filter
OFHG
waterpump
coolant hoses
t-stat
ps res

Lot's of Canadians on the board now! Welcome.

There is a "where are from" page with a map somewhere, perhaps the boss can link to it.

Welcome!

I believe your car would be considered a M-Sport package and not a ZAM car (Canadian version of ZHP)

I think you're correct! The car doesn't have the thin walled exhaust. It has the rounded edged tips.

I think this option is the distinguisher for it being an m-sport:
S338A M SPORTPAKET II -- M Sports package II

Also, the FAQ sounds like direct hit:

Question: I know that I've seen other BMW 330 vehicles in Canada that look like the US ZHP and the Canadian M Performance Package. However, they did not get the upgraded engine tweaks. What was that version called?
Answer: That's the M-sport package. The M-sport package came standard with 225 HP (like the stock 330) but it got the M-tech II Aero body kit. The M-sport package has the standard 330i thick chrome exhaust tips with the flap inside of the right-side tip.

welcome from canada! nice pair!

that is indeed an M-Sport. apparently they are more rare than a ZHP/ZAM in canada, and those are pretty rare themselves!

rarer than 1 in 21?!?

depends on the color scheme. :)

mine is 1/21 imolarot/black leather, but 1/215 ZHP sedans made for canada. i seem to remember that there were fewer than 215 M-Sport sedans.

I really like details like this, thanks.

Is there a way to get production numbers again? I've seen some stats on this site for zhp's and other production numbers for other bmw models on other sites.. but don't know the source of the stats.

i found this tidbit, but not sure if the '322' # pertains to sedans/coupes/cabs, or just coupes in this case:

"It is also one of 322 M Sports. Even though it was not officially offered in US, somehow 11 M Sports made it to US, the rest were built for Canada."
(from: http://www.maxbimmer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1612372&postcount=26)

also, very interesting about the 11 that made it to the US!!

Source provided:

Question: How many BMW ZHP Performance Packages were ordered/produced?
Answer: While BMW has never published that information, SickFinga endeavored to laboriously go through each E46 build sheet to gather the following information which is believed to be the most accurate assessment on the interwebz:

OK, i got a reply! here's the details:

39 - 2002-2005 BMW 330i Sedan (EV53) - NA painted in Orient Blue Metallic (317) with Black Montana Leather (0551/N6SW) interior were built for the Canadian market. 14 manual, 25 automatic

183 were built for the US. 6 SMG, 52 manual, 125 automatic

The most rare option on your car is the option P338A - M Sports package II. It was installed on 230 out of 37,357 cars.

^ also answers your second question. 230 M Sports were built.

so, your car is 1/25 (orient blue over black leather, AT), however, we don't know how many of those were M-Sports!

we do see that there were 230 M-Sport sedans; so they are almost as rare as ZHP sedans (215). cool, huh??

Yea! Apparently both of my cars have quite rare combinations of options. For the e30 it's 1/3 late model 325is in NA that are sterling silver with grey cloth seats. I'd like to get my hands on the data that our source uses. I'd like to play with the parameters such as not filtering on interior type. Thanks again for pointing me to the thread.

A few more options that my M sports package II car is equipped with. I assume these parts are part of the 'S338A - M Sports package II' option:

M door sills - 51477894857 x2, 51477891987, 51477891988
M dead pedal - 51437902389
